Boarding pods claim abandoned ships

Post by Demiurge »

So I found a debris field with a bunch of damaged warships of incredible value that would normally require a fleet of construction ships to claim. By accident I managed to have one of my ships throw a boarding pod at one of them and it was captured and activated for my empire. It's hyperdrive was functional so it jumped off to repair at my nearest station.

I tested this extensively on a number of other damaged ships and the result was the same, I even managed to claim a nearly completed desolation moon although that took more pods (the moon had a defence of 800) but it worked and now I have a moon and the AI doesn't.

This seems like a big exploit to me and I figured I'd report it :)

Yes, I mentioned it elsewhere...

I am in the current game playing as pirate, and I boarded all 3 world destroyers :P

If you get one with hyperdrive, it will jump (even incomplete lol) to your base, and you can actually use it if you wish (even being partially complete), although seemly it only obeys you if it has hyperdrive and the main cannon done.

If it does not have hyperdrive, you will have to construct it normally, except the AI won't attempt to construct it too :)

Thanks for finding this bug. Do you want us to fix it, or would you prefer to keep things this way? [:D]

Just kidding, we'll fix this in the next update.

I honestly don't see the problem with it, after all if a ship has a hyperdrive in working order but has some damage, wouldn't you simply board it and then return it to your spaceport/base to repair it?

In any case I'm looking forward to the next update :).
I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you f**k with me, I’ll kill you all.

You are right that realistically you wouldn't bring a repair fleet in to take something that can already fly itself, but I feel this would be more of a balance change (imagine the AI doesn't do this only the player?)

If you need a role-playing explanation, such ships have many booby traps, as such require professional repairs to board and work through the ship properly
Or even, they were abandoned because the damage sustained meant taking them straight to hyperspace would tear it apart

You get the drift ;) lol

I think at first this should be fixed, but it also need to be take a look to see if it can be improved later...

I thought the mechanic potential was really cool, but right now is really broken (ie: you can board every single ship you come across, and then rain 200k firepower in enemies with 10k firepower...)

Yah, this needed fixing if only for balance purposes.

The thing's been semi-fixed. The enemy ships, even though Abandoned, have defenders based on ship size. You'll have to work a lot harder to claim them.
