Energy collection

Post by Chris21wen »

How does it work. Help say the ship needs to be stationary for it to work, but where? Anywhere? What does energy colletion actually do?

Energy Collection will help you primary for bases to NOT waste fuel, so for standard operations. And so its essential to keep your miningstation bases ect running without wasting endless fuel for them to work.

To further understand you can look into the design editor where you will find the "static" energy consumption. That is energy loss thanks for just operating what he is doing.
Energy Colelctors collect the Energy from the Sun, solar panels to be precise. Therefore only work in systems that is important to know for Deepspace stations.

For ships it helps to keep the shields activ when they run out of fuel, and can defend themself a bit because they regenerate energy.

I believe it also keeps ships from burning fuel while just sitting idle. So make sure every ship has at least some minimal energy collection ability or they constantly burn fuel even when doing nothing.

As mentioned;

They only work in a star system (as they use solar panels).

Every ship, and base has a static energy use (sensors, life support, etc) this number is listed to the right of the ship design window. If your energy collecting is under this number a ship (or base) needs to use generators and burn fuel to operate these items - and it will eventually run out of fuel by just being "idle".

Ships will need to crawl back for resupply, bases will need a freighter to resupply them. Both can obviously be really inconvenient!

... and gas cloud. So they work in any system, but not in dead space.
