What a way to start!

Post by CyclopsSlayer »

Started a pre-Warp Empire game today, Huge map (15x15), 1400 stars, 15 Empires, varied clusters. No mods, well other than the old GEM. All other settings at Normal, limited colony range, no Shakturi storyline.
Random race selection turned up Quameeno, good tech, lousy militarists...

Lost my first Star Port to a early pirate raid, but managed to buy them off long enough to get the second finished. Never dealt with the pirates after that, other than as targets. [:)]

What made the game worthy of note, and this AAR, was that 3 of the 4 stars my early explorers could reach had colonies in them.

Thats right, 6 colonies in 3 star systems, 4 of which were in ONE star system, of course I found a Hidden Pirate Base on all 4 of them... The gods smiled...[:)]

Needless to say, it was an easy victory. 2147.10.17 Actually got the "Peace through Peace" achievement for neve being in a War. Apparently wading hip deep through Pirate goo doesn't count. [:D]

In one game on "easy", I had all the victory conditions on default, and I won in one month after the minimum time! I started on the edge of an elliptical galaxy. Next game with similar starting conditions, I will probably resign: I am doing OK, but the nearest Casion source is two sectors away! The same planet has the nearest Hydrogen source too. Although I have 3 good colonies in my starting system, I am finding it very difficult to build anything. That is because I have a trade treaty with the only non-pirate race I found, but unfortunately a powerful pirate colony is right between our systems, and all the trade ships go right to the pirates where they are immediately wiped out.

This might be a good challenge for an expert, but it seems like a bit much for a beginner like me.
