Blockade

Post by gheed123 »

Some ants got angry at me for some reason and they impose trade sanctions on me. One of my outpost monitoring base catches a fleet of 16 of their ships heading for 1 of my colonies. So I send my main fleet up there. They totally ignore my fleet and just go ahead and put up a blockade on that colony. And when I ask them to pull their military ships out of my systems they're all like "SHIPS? WHAT SHIPS? LOL"

Is this intended?

I don't know if it's intended, but it sure is funny! [:D]

I hate the Ants and Spiders.

Follow Sky Marshal Dienes instruction:

"We must meet this threat with our courage, our valor, indeed with our very lives to ensure that human civilization, not insect, dominates this galaxy *now and always*! "

dann leuchtet ein Licht,

Yeah, the diplomacy concerning blockades are just odd. In real life, a military blockade is a part of warfare, not a diplomatic action, because you are frigging shooting at and destroying ships.

As can be expected, as soon as an AI empire ever blockades another AI empire, they start shooting each other, and war gets declared shortly afterwards, which isn't how I think the developers intended to happen.

The "what ships?" comment from the insectoid species has been in DW a long time. When I last played Return Shak.yada they moved a massive fleet into a gas cloud (in my space) right next to one of my bigger colonies. I said, remove ships from my systems. They said, what ships?

So I let the AI run my empire on auto for a while and it decided to blockade those ants. The ants ask me to leave and then arrive at the blockade with a Devastation Moon, but it just sits there and looks at us for a few months.

I'm wondering if now that we have a notion of 'space control' for ground combat if this could be applied to blockades.  That is a blockade is only regarded to exist if the blockading force has effective space control over/around the colony?  It would mean that you could bust blockades by stationing extra ships there without firing a shot.  It would also result in blockades only starting once there was an enemy military presence in the system.

Thoughts?

theoretically unenforced blockades should be busted by civilian ships going through them

but i've never seen it

and the AI always gives up on blockades after a minute or two..... still broken.

When I had this "What ships?" impertinence once, I sent in one of my battlefleets and destroyed those blockaders.
The insectoids *were* right: "What ships?"
Nothing else happened.

And if you dont care about your reputation. A full fleet elimination without a war declaration will make you look pretty evil for everybody. [:@]

So my fleet was having a staring contest with theirs and after their blatant denial of ship presence I decided to wait it out for a while.
Then my eye caught something. It was 2 of their troop transports casually moseying (this really is the best word to describe it) towards the blockaded colony.
It appears this whole thing was an attempt at a CUNNING ruse by these ants. The blockade was just a distraction, meant for the human leaders to go into a discussion (on a certain space forum) to decide what the best course of action would be. It further reveals that their denial of WHAT SHIPS LOL? was actually a cunning attempt at diverting attention from the ruse.

Needless to say, war was declared soon after, and many ants met a laser-y death that day.

I know. But this is why I think the blockade design should be re-thought: I warned them. Got my *what ships?* Gave them *what ships?* And suffer a reputation loss. What for? For acting predictably?

BTW, do blockades cause a reputation loss?

When I said shoot at ships, they will shoot at freighter ships. Which eventually leads to war.
As for the Devastation Moon, it must be the most intimidation anti bloackade ship ever, till you realise that if it ever fires, its area of effect would blow up the planet it is defending. At least that's what seemed to happen one time.

It'd be a good blockader though. Basically don't try to break this blockade OR ELSE!
