Artillery units etc in corp headquarters

Post by matt.buttsworth »

In my game, when looking at the corp hqs there are many artillery regiments, sapper regiments etc locked up in corps.
This is a total waste.
How can I use them so new artillery regiments etc do not have to be created?

What do you mean locked? Support units can be transferred between HQs (and some of them can be attached to larger combat units). When a Corp HQ disbands, the SUs go to higher HQ, so they are not disbanded together with the corps.

Even more, you can assign up to three non-artillery pieces to divisions as well as assign to corps & higher HQs. Sappers especially are important as they get digging & forts going. Note that arty at corps level usually contributes to combat, and SOV can get arty barrage from 2nd hex away. An advantage not allowed to Axis no matter what arty is available.

Getting balance for these guys is a chore that uses up admin points. Might be nice to have balanced distribution at scenario get-go.

Soviet divisions cannot have SUs assigned, unfortunately.

SUs in HQs help in combat only when units assigned directly to that HQ participate, so there is no need keeping SUs in higher level commands (except construction SUs).

I concur about sappers being essential. As a Soviet player I also attached separate tank/heavy tank battalions/regiments and SU regiments to my corps. Artillery barrage from afar comes from artillery combat units (brigades and divisions), so they do not belong to this subject really.
