Ai?

Post by VictorH »

I've read the FAQS and the Sales Blurb and saw nothing about an AI for the game. Will Empire at Arms have an AI?

Hi Victor,

I would be surprised if it doesn't. Right now I know little more than what is posted on the site, but hopefully should be up to speed by the end of next week.

Ah, but what is a good AI?

Some would say a good AI is one that helps the player to learn all the basics of the game in order to be prepared enough to take on human players? That's what I'd like. Otherwise the game may be delayed even further. It is human vs. human play that I want. :)

I agree with Ashbery here, and I also agree that the game had better have a decent AI or it won't sell (or satisfy the majority of its buyers).

Although we might wish it otherwise, the plain fact is that far more computer games are played solitaire than against other humans. This was a stark fact during the heyday of paper-and-cardboard games, and it is equally true in the computer simulation arena.

Also, this game will not offer just "human vs. human" play. It will offer 'human vs. human vs. human vs. human vs. human vs. human vs. human" play. The AI had better be able to sit in for one or more positions, or the entire venture is doomed to economic failure.

I want the AI to be sly, slick, and sophisticated to the maximum extent possible. I hope for games that are fully populated by us hoomin beans, but I suspect that such games will be the exception rather than the rule.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.
