Using those AP's

Post by swkuh »

Given adequate AP's, how would one best use them? Consider choices: organizing forces to HQ's, moving support units to HQ's, assigning support units to Divisions, or assigning leaders? This for Axis.

Of course, Soviet has additional important chore of forming various units.

Are there other uses, each side?

Your approaches, please.

Looks like nobody wants to answer this question so I'm giving it a shot. But keep in mind that I have limited experience with this game.

Axis

1. I mainly use APs for HQ buildups. I've done as many as 4 buildups in one turn so you need to stockpile APs.
2. I reassign some units to different HQs. Sometimes the mix of units is not very good (fast and slow units mixed together)
3. Sometimes I assing new leaders. For example if I reach Leningrad I assign Model to the II Corps for an assault over the river.
4. Later in the game you can use APs to manually upgrade planes. Once you lost the iniative you can get rid of your JU-87 and turn them into fighters.

Soviet

1. I disband as many Corps HQ as possible to increase my manpower pool and save vehicles.
2. I assign new leaders to the fronts and armies. This is a slow process because it's expensive.
3. I build new support units like Sappers and RR Repair units to help fortifying my units.
4. Later of course you use APs to build cavalry and rifle divisions etc. from scratch but don't build units before November and don't build fortified zones.

Thanks, Bozo!

Had forgotten HQBU's & aircraft, thanks the reminder.

Agree, Model is useful and should be played at the right time.

Learning that well organized units is an expensive way to spend AP Not so useful compared to best leaders & timely HQBU's.

Any other suggestions?

I forgot. You can also assign some SUs directly to divisions. I assign them to mechanized and tank divisions as well as infantry divisions that are attacking Leningrad. The later get as many pioneers as possible. Some of the mechanized divisions are rather weak and you can beef them up with Jagdpanzer/Flammpanzer battalions etc.

You're obviously asking the question from the axis viewpoint, because the soviets never have adequate APs.

Thanks, Bozo, for your brief tutorial. Getting a good attack on L'berg with many pioneers and best commanders is interesting. I'll try that.

And, Del, I'm not very keen to play Soviets; that side is really challenging.
