These are the switches that I use for Windows 8. Maybe play around with some of them, most likely the -SingleCpuOrders and some form of -cpu3.

"C:\Matrix Games\WITP AE - PBM #1\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -archive -wd -deepColor -px1366 -py768 -fixedArt -noFire -SingleCpuOrders -cpu3

OK. To help you prepare, first go to the manual and look up the command line switches they talk about. Those are very much out of date, but it will get you started with the concept and IIRC they have a picture or two. Then, go to the read me (PDF file) of the Beta. Near the front you will find the section on updated command line switches.

What we are talking about is contained in the shortcut that you are using to run the game. Right-click on the shortcut and click on 'Properties'. You will get a menu with the various options pertaining to the shortcut and the program it is aimed at. In particular, there are two boxes with text in them. The second of those boxes has the folder where the program should 'run'. Not the folder where it is, but the folder where Windows should tell the program to find things (like the pwhex file, and all the other stuff that AE needs).

The first of those text boxes contains the actual command line. That is what I pasted in my last post. The first part of it is the location and name of the program. Notice that the location part of what I pasted is
C:\Matrix Games\WITP AE - PBM #1\Beta2\

and the program name is
War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe

Obviously the location on your system might be different, so don't mess with that part.

Notice also that the quotation marks are critical. That is because there are spaces inside the location and/or program name. The switches come next, and as you can see each one is preceded by a -
-

The switches that you might need to add for AE to perform well when you are giving orders on Windows 8 are
-deepColor -SingleCpuOrders -cpu3

The "-cpu3" might be better as some other number on your system, like "-cpu1" or "-cpu2". The "-deepColor" might not be right for your system, but I need it on my Windows 8 laptop. The "-SingleCpuOrders" is really important for my Windows 8 system to perform well when giving orders.

Hi Maartenr,

One other thing to be careful about is 'dashes' and Windows cut-n-paste. Windows will some times convert the dash to a 'em-dash' (It looks a little shorter) and the program will not accept the option.

Cheers,
Guy

Sorry to interject, but " -fixedArt" is a new one to me. What does that do? And does it affect the add-on Cathartes top/side airplane and Brian's ship art?

Thanks.
