Corps formation bug

Civil War 2 is the definitive grand strategy game of the period. It is a turn based regional game with an emphasis on playability and historical accuracy. It is built on the renowned AGE game engine, with a modern and intuitive interface that makes it easy to learn yet hard to master.
This historical operational strategy game with a simultaneous turn-based engine (WEGO system) that places players at the head of the USA or CSA during the American Civil War (1861-1865).

Corps formation bug

Post by mikeCK »

Over at the AGEOD forums many are claiming they cannot form corps... Even into fall of 1862. Has anyone here been able to form corps as the union? Not sure if I want to start a game yet if I can't from corps...if it's a random bug, that's different.

And yes, they were two star generals in range of the army commander

Same here, CSA May 1962.

Also saw this on the AGEOD site:

As for corps, in the testing corps could be formed from initial patch to patch 0.99 without problems. When we got patch 1.0. few days before release, there seemed to be a bug preventing them to be formed. This bug was corrected in subsequent beta patch, but I do not know if that made it to release version. Things like that are often in beta patches. For example, in latest beta patch troops cannot board ships for some reason. So it is always a game you fix 2 things and break one thing in the process. It is an iterative process that will eventually converge to clean bug free game
The problem is when you publish a date of release, and you are obliged to release it even if it isn't polished to the end. That is why first patch is not released to the public although some things you requested are already fixed. The game is definitely playable (no hard crashes) if we are willing to turn a blind eye to some glitches which will soon be corrected. After all, we waited for this game a long time. AACW2 wishlist thread came up few years ago, we can wait a week more for a fully polished game.

Great excuse but wtf?? Shouldn't there be a test of the final release version? If yes, why would you change anything right before release without testing it. Also, seems like the kind of thing you should hotfix ASAP instead of waiting for the next patch. The inability to forms corps is kind of a big deal.

I'm am avowed AGEOD fanboy but what the hell?

Keep that finger in reserve. I think it'll take them at least a few more days to hammer out the known bugs.

How about an official idea when to expect a hot fix, not much use playing if you cant form Corps.

The incoming patch will fix that and more. It will be out very soon. The quick fix from the player is working nicely too.

Right, his nickname is Ace, his real name is Neno and he is a nice guy with whom I talked several time. If you were part of the beta team, you would see that we are very friendly with people, because we know we owe them a lot.

Are you implying that beta should not be needed because the developers have to do the job in a so perfect way that there is never a single error or flaw in any software project? I would wish that could be true, but alas humans are fallible. On the plus side, we get to know nice people like Ace [:)]

Thanks for kind words[:)]

Since I am being mentioned here, it is only appropriate to join in the discussion. I know the AGEOD designers (all three of them) have been working very hard every weekend pre and post release trying to produce a great game we could all enjoy, so I think they deserve the credit for the effort.
As for the quickfix, I did nothing special. They have fixed it long before me. I have never played Matrix released games before. I do not know is it common to release official quickfix in one week only to be overwritten by an official patch a week later. Since many of you asked for it, I took the initiative and posted the fix.
It is easier for me to do so. None will ask me why I post a fix this week, and a patch another week. None will ask me why are you fixing this and not that, etc. It makes sense the developers(Matrix/Ageod) decided to put it all in the patch which should come soon.

I don't recall seeing quick fixes with Matrix. It has to do, I think, with the elaborate process of "building" an installer for each patch. It takes much longer than most to get a patch out so why do a quick fix?

sadly enough it is a part of small studio publishing that computer games tend to get rushed. At least with Console games you knew it wouldn't happen because they couldn't patch them !

I have nothing against Ageod and will probably, well almost certainly, buy the game, but I am giving it a few weeks/months to be polished a bit. Will probably a christmas present for me !

Pocus, I applied Aces quick fix. When the patch comes can I just install it over the quick fix or should I revert to the original files which I backed up?"
