Looking for....

Post by 105mm Howitzer »

Hi y'all. I need a few suggestions from the community concerning a game. Essentially, I'm looking for a John Tiller campaign Series style of game, but set in the modern context. ( 1950's to present day, if possible) It must have set-piece scenarios and fantasy settings as seen from the Campaign Series. Any and all help is appreciated.
Thanks very much.

Only Norm Krogers Operational Art of War 3 comes to my mind - hundreds of scenario historical and fictional (if thats what you mean by "fantasy")

Yep. TOAW 3 is a brilliant game anyway, so you can't really go wrong. Heaps of Cold War scenarios/campaigns and zillions from before then too. The AI is very strong now. It's also got a computer vs computer mode, which can be fun to watch.

Windows Steel Panthers MBT via Shrapnel from SPCamo is just crammed with all sorts of good post WW2 content. It's closer to squad tactical than platoon level tactical though.
I have too many too complicated wargames, and not enough sufficiently interested non wargamer friends.

105mm Howitzer- I'm looking for a John Tiller campaign Series style of game, but set in the modern context.
But for what I ask?! Why would you seek anything other than the Glory of WWI or WWII??! Have you gone Mad?? Are you feeling Daft??! Nothing can be edified without Uncle Joe's Treachery and Uncle Adolf's Chicanery! What do think you will gain by this misguided Wandering without General Pattons beautiful "slapping" incident??! O the Folly!!

Germany's unforgivable crime before the Second World War was her attempt to extricate her economy from the world's trading system and to create her own exchange mechanism which would deny world finance its opportunity to profit.

Maybe not quite what you're looking for. It's not turn based but Close Combat Modern Tactics is present day and a lot of fun.

You could wait for Matrix to release the Modern Wars series of JTCS. The first title will have the Arab Israeli wars and Vietnam.
