AI ship suicide

Post by mattyv29 »

Is there a way to keep a ship from offing herself? The scenario runs like this...the ship I am controlling has a significantly less Surf-Surf range than the ship she is heading right for. I have selected maintain standoff, plotted a course in the opposite direction, no AI fire...and selected it to a patrol box well away from danger...yet she still sails directly into missile range of the enemy ship and does her best Titanic impersonation. Any ideas how to keep this from happening?

Yeah...I had standoff checked. That is what is confusing me on this issue.

Okay maintain offensive advantage is only for when you actually have an offensive range advantage (your missiles or guns outrange the enemies) and you have a good enough identification of the target to have made the evaluation. You're likely using an ASuW mission with the investigate contacts outside patrol area checkbox selected. So the behavior is not wrong just not correct for this engagement.

If you're looking to avoid a fight plot away from the target or move the patrol zone (making sure its not within the scope of the enemy's patrol and uncheck the investigate contacts outside patrol area. You could also use a no navigate zone if necessary with the ship check box selected.

Let me know how you do.
