[FIXED B451] Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
Battle of Latakia as Israel--8 of 8 Gabriel I s have missed thus far...bad luck or do I need to do something (or not do something) to get them to hit?
BTW, the Israeli jammers are badass [;)]

3 more misses.
Range is 10nm and I have a strong fix on the target...

RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
Ok, I finally got a hit on Gabriel number 13...lucky number right? [X(]
RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
So, since the Gabriel relies on a data link from the firing vessel, I tried slowing down my firing ships and guess what? my hit %-age seems to have gone up! [:)]
(I'd love a weapons data base viewer for stuff like this, but then again it's fun to figure it out too)

RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
Does the enemy ship have decoys? Chaff? Is it jamming your ship? The missile could also have a poor chance to hit as well.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

I think the problem was I was going too fast and throwing off the weapon's guidance. Once I slowed my ships down they started hitting.
FWIW, I'm not sure how realistic this all is--I mean is is 30 knots on a sea state=0 really THAT bad for weapon guidance? And should decreasing my speed by 5 knots change my hit %-age from <10% to over 90%??
RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
Ok, played again to night and I'mm still not getting Gabriels to hit reliably in this scenario.
The DB gives Gabriel I's a Pk of 80%--what adjustments would be made to them in this particular scenario?
I'm guessing I'm getting about 1-in-3 or 1-in-4 to hit.

RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
I have had a ton of misses with the same scenario. I would say over 50%...not sure what is historical.

RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
On my experiences with that scenario:
- Missile boats: I was able to easily hit them with Gabriel
- Torpedo boats: the smaller ones, using Gabriel is just a waste of ammo, always misses. Guns, on the other hand, worked wonderful

RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
Actually, that is what I am seeing also. Missile boats I hit. Any losses come from the TBs and I can't get missile hits on them.

RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
there is a size difference between the 2 boat types
maybe PTs are too small for Gabriel?

RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
I was just wondering that...maybe they are made of wood and don't provide a lock.
RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
Hmmm yeah I _sometimes_ see the same issue. In some run-throughs I get realistic behaviour, in other the SSMs miss a lot. Have registered a ticked on this one with your comments. Need to run this in the debugger.
Thanks for reporting this one guys [8D]

I figured what the hell...I'd take a look at historical performance. I don't feel so bad now, looking at missile performance in 1973.
from Wikipedia
he four Israeli Navy Sa'ar 3-classs and one Sa'ar 4-class missile boats headed towards the Syrian port of Latakia in two parallel columns. In the western column were the missile boats Miznak (Blast), Ga'ash (Storm), and Hanit (Lance) and in the eastern column the missile boats Mivtach (Reliance) and Reshef (Spark)). At 22:28 hours the Israelis encountered the Syrian K-123 torpedo boat which was sunk with 76mm cannon fire from Mivtach and Hanit. Then as they headed toward the shore, they encountered a 560 ton Syrian T43-class minesweeper and sank it, using four Gabriel anti-ship missiles. At 23:30 the Israelis made contact with two Syrian Komar and one Osa class missile boats. The Syrian missile boats fired their missiles at long range. As the missiles approached, the Israelis employed electronic countermeasures and chaff rockets to avoid being hit, with success. When the Israeli missile boats reached the range of their own missiles they fired five Gabriel missiles and sank one Komar and one Osa class missile boat immediately and damaged the second Komar. The surviving Syrian missile boat tried to escape, but it was stuck in shallow waters and was destroyed by 76 mm cannon fire at 00:26 hours.
During this naval clash Syrian missile boats launched missiles from within the port limits (actually launched while the missile boats were moored between merchant ships in port). These missiles malfunctioned or lost guidance and hit 2 merchant vessels anchored along the piers. Both ships (one Greek and one Japanese) were hit in the engine rooms.

RE: Gabriel missiles--why am I missing?
I did notice at least half my Gabriel missiles failed due to malfunction in my last play through.
