Conversion of CS Nisshin and 2 BB's

Post by v.Manstein »

I was looking everywhere to get information about where to convert my CS's and BB's to carriers but an online search just points me towards the admiral edition.

Now, the manual tells me to get them to Osaka. did that but they won't convert. Now I put them to Tokyo, even took off the aircraft but still, they don't want to convert to carriers. My shipyeards osaka and tokyo are all size 100 and it is past jan 43 already.

Maybe it has to do with that I won the campaign already? I continued the game after the victory screen.

I do have sufficent CV's to keep the US at bay, but you never know. Therefore I would like to convert them to have more carriers available.

Anybody got any idea if the conversion works or is it just listed in the manual but the code won't support it at all?

Cheers.

Chitose and Chiyoda convert by being left at anchor in Osaka after 31 Dec 1942, for either the last or first day of a month (not sure which). Ise and Hyuga are similar, but conversion might not be possible until later (maybe 30 Apr 1943?). Nisshin does not convert at all.

Search this forum for "conversion" and a number of threads discuss the conversion.

Cheers, Mobeer.

Finally that did the trick. To leave them all in Osaka and the at the start of the next month in March 43, they all converted without telling me anything.

I took the nisshin name because when I did a search for the answer, all that came up was hints towards the Admiral Edition. Could not find a thing about the conversion in the normal edition.

Thanks.

It's slightly hidden in chapter 13.2.3 under the heading Special Japanese Ship Conversion. I found it by searching on the ship names (but then you need to know them :-) ).

I found it there as well, but it did not mention that the ships need to be there at exactly month's end/start. So I left them there in Osaka, not being converted. I assumed they would do that any day after jan 43.
Then I started my online research but all it was pointing towards was the admirals edition.

Well, it's cleared up now and my babies are being converted right now.

I'm wondering if its worth it? I find the fast CSs incredibly useful to provide scouting for the CVs. Granted they could still do that job once converted, but you're essentially swapping a specialised platform in a balanced TF for a platform that can do a bit of both, but not as well as well as the specialised units. I'm in mid 1943 and in my first PBEM, so I can't tell what the later war requirements will be, but at this stage I can't see the case for taking a CS out of service for 6 months. The two old BBs on the other hand, I will convert as soon as I am able. I think they will be very useful in providing both AAA and ASW protection for important convoys. At the last ditch, they will be the preferred target for Allied bombers, giving the convoy time to scatter.

Sorry, I take it back. I didn't realise these conversions cost ship building points, not repair. No, the BBs aren't worth it and neither are the CS. (If we all agree the Shinano is a dud, why would we be discussing the other ones, which produce a worse compromise?)
