You are going to have to train yourself - it may take a year or so to learn the game unless you have a lot of time available to play.

After several years of playing this game, I still learn things nearly every time I play it. That is why I like this game so much.

I suggest you play against AI until you learn basics and when feel competent try against human opponent and remember losing battle to better commander isnt bad if you learn from it

Yes! As my tennis instructor told me (repeatedly), play the best opponent you can - you will learn more from getting beaten by a good player than winning against a lesser player.

There has been a lot of good tips and techniques posted on these boards. If you run into a problem that seems to cost you an inordinate amount of casualties, do a search to see if your base problem shows up. I do that and find my issue has a wide range of solutions to try -- at least one fits into my command style, and the others give me a variety of responses to surprise opponants with.

In addition, the people on this board seem more than happy to tell you how they beat the opposition -- so search for a players comments before you start a battle with one of them. Sort of like Patton reading Rommel's book.
