Units/counters

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Units/counters

Post by british exil »

Do I have to know what every fighting machine is capable of? Or is there a manual or ebook where I can get basic information. I never served with the forces, my dad did serve in BAOR so I have some basic information of the British setup, the game is of interest to me as I live in the area of Hameln (where the Weser crossings will be fought) and I now the Dutch Border well (Schüttorf area, where more battles wil take place). So I will be fighting on my doorstep. Very nice, I hope we will still speak german after my command. lol.

We do not have anything like that. There are many decent sources for getting info and specifications of the various pieces of hardware seen in the game. Start with wikipedia and move on from there.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

I was in the military and I need help myself keeping all the equipment straight. There is a wealth of info on the internet on just about everything in the game. I have found myself frequenting the internet to refresh my memory or to look at something I was not familiar with. Btw, the time period of this game is about 6 years after I ended my service and by then the NATO had completely changed much of their equipment.

Looks like I have to start buying paper and pencils to write down all my info/intel, you're really getting us to do our homework.

Do you mean something like the sub-unit inspector )which shows a unit's stats, like it's top speed and how many HEAT rounds it carries, or are you thinking more of the lines of what that unit is supposed to do? ie "A Challenger 1 is a main battle tank who's main purpose was to destroy other tanks"?
Gen. Montgomery: "Your men don't salute much."
Gen. Freyberg: "Well, if you wave at them they'll usually wave back."

Yep, that was what I was thinking of. Main battle tanks are clear, destroy everything that appears in front of the barrel. But the small tracked vehicles, now that is a bit more difficult for me, troop carriers or TOW ? I mean I can learn by playing, but it is a lot more enjoyable or easier when one knows what task a certain vehicle can and can't do.

In the sub-unit inspector you will see the sub-unit's name and beside it in brackets it's purpose. for example you'll see Spartan MCT (Self Propelled Anti-tank). That should make it easier for you
