A Word of Thanks

Post by designer1 »

I just want to drop a word of Thanks to GG and the entire design, development and publishing teams at 2by3 and Matrix Games. I'm an OLD grognard - been pushing counters and/or pixels since 1967 - and have played hundreds of wargames, developed several and designed a few myself.

UV is one of the finest wargaming experiences I have ever had. In fact, I'm not playing anything else at the moment with eight PBEM's going.

I know there are a few bugs here and there, but Matrix must be commended for both the speed and thoroughness with which they have addressed the usual teething problems that a new game has - and which many publishers never bother to fix.

I can't address every issue of historical accuracy in detail - but the overall level of detail and accuracy is amazing, so much so that it makes the very slips seem to loom large and obvious. In a more generalized or abstracted system without this level of research and research implementation the few errors that there are would never even be found.

Gentlemen, my hat is off to you for a darned fine product that, for me, recreates the experience of the South Seas war quite well - in fact, I often think of that scene from the motion picture, Midway, where Fletcher and Charleton Heston's character are listening to the radio traffic coming back from the American bomber groups... Watching the comat animations of a carrier battle provides exactly that feeling...

So, from this old grognard, kudo's, gentlemen. While I can hardly wait for WITP and have high hopes for it, UV will be, frankly, a darned hard act to follow! ;) :D

You should add this to The a little good news thread - it's certainly one of the best wargames I have played. The
intensity of a carrier battle reminds me of the feeling I have
when watching my team play in a cup final. So far the
results in the game for me have been better.

On a minor point I would like to mention the in game music.
A more atmospheric and unobtrusive soundtrack I have yet to hear. After 3 months of playing the game I still have it turned on -
a first after 20 years of computer wargaming!
So drink to the Black Cat PBY, damnedest old plane in all God's sky,
BB-gun for'd and a slingshot aft, Hundred twenty knots when in a forced draft.

Ditto. Great Job on the sound track. Does anybody not listen to the music while playing this game?

I agree on the music!

Probably the best computer game soundtrack I've heard. I always play with it on. It IS unobtrusive - and yet evocative. I often hear it in my head at work, on the drive home - you know, whenever I'm not playing and wish I was!!!!

Yup, the music is very soothing and appropriate for playing the game. I always have it on. . .

What aweek

Post by herbieh »

Here here. Just finished every gamers dream, nearly an entire week of un interrupted UV playing:D
At the end still as eager for the next turn as the last.
And surprise , surprise, so many of those complaints I read got answered by the game , cant get a surface attack to work, i saw several. Frustrated by "uneven combat results". Saw all sorts of results.
Made mistakes, GOT HAMMERED BY THE AI.
Did it right, HAMMERED THE AI

What a great game.
I cant see any way to improve this, except , LETS PUT IT IN THE MED! (after WIP of course)

Keep up the fantastic work

PS BEER IS GOOD
PPS, Like the message of thanks at the end of the game too guys.:)

Yep. UV is good. UV in the Med would be good. Beer is good. What could I possibly add? Oh, yeah. P***y is good, too.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.
