Contacts changing shape

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Refering to manual page 20, why do contact symbols change shape when classified "hostile" or "unknown"?

e.g. a square becoming a diamond.

I thought that changing color (becoming red or yellow) would be enough ? This seems redundant information and confusing as we have to learn 2 symbols: one for friendly and one for hostile.

Unless there is a good reason ?

By default the game uses standard NTDS symbology.

NTDS was 1st developed in the 1950s--long before color displays were standard.

The distinct shapes however, work just fine for a B/W monitor (or colorblind people.)

It's a huge improvement over just plain "blips" for everything.

Terry Crawley (StalinTC) has developed a set of stylized icons for players uncomfortable with Command’s default NTDS/APP-6 symbols.

How to use: Unzip the file in your Command\Symbols\NTDS folder. (Backup the folder first if you want to be able to revert to the default icons later)
