Question from ROE?

Post by GBS »

What is the meaning of "pessimistic" and "optimistic" as used in the ROE settings? Thanks.

You are making a joke, right. I'm afraid that I am ignorant of military lingo. I just want to put it into context.

ƒ
IGNORE AMBIGUITY: An ambiguous contact is any contact
with an uncertainly area. The AI will ignore the ambiguity when
determining whether or not to launch a weapon.

ƒƒOPTIMISTIC: The target uncertainty area must be smaller than
3x the weapon tolerance for the AI to launch the weapon.
ƒƒ
PESSIMISTIC: The target location uncertainty must be less
than the weapon tolerance for the AI to launch the weapon.

Does this BTW say something about success probability ?

Reading this, and comparing it to my own experiences, I think we might need another option for this. Something like the opposite of "ignore ambiguity", where the AI only attacks if there's no ambiguity at all and the target location is fixed.

Yes. The AI definitely needs more flexible ways for the player to rein it in.

We've considered this, but then it is _very_ likely that the AI will never obtain a "perfect" firing solution and thus never attack. Cue the new "bug reports": "This game is too easy! I can slaughter the enemy AI and they never engage me!"

Trade offs, trade offs....
