Just wanna say...
Thank You to the developers of this game.
I just finished reading an old (but great) Zaloga book called "Red Thrust" about a Soviet invasion, told via platoon-level tactical vignettes. And then this comes out 3 days later.
Coincidence? Hey, I'll take it. FC looks like exactly what I wanted. Just finished the tutorial, and I'm really stoked thus far.
Way to go, guys. [&o]

At some point well get into the 70s and earlier decades in the game data. Only so many hours in the day for this stuff. Sadly. [8D]
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

Yup, have Mech War 77, as well as Red Star - White Star too.
Mech War 77 was very interesting to me because I was 'boots on the ground' at that time.
Good Hunting.

RE: Just wanna say...
I remember being in 8th grade, going to the Wargames Club in my school and seeing where some older guys had set up Red Star/White Star.
That's really where it all started for me. Funny thing - I never got to play. Years later, I snagged a copy on eBay just for nostalgia.
Maybe because that's where I got started, but I've always gravitated back toward the big 80's matchup with the Warsaw Pact. Or maybe it's because the WP were the only ones I could convince myself were capable of a real stand-up fight (as opposed to all the unequal matchups the USA's had in the years since, or the nasty asymmetrical conflicts where "victory" is measured in how many kids the enemy blows up in a crowded market).
To have FPC:RS plus Command:ANO - and to have them released pretty much simultaneously - it's just a great time to be a wargamer.

I've been gaming since the mid to late 70's and NATO v WP has always been my favorite subject, hands down.

The Eastern Front has always been my favorite. (See Avatar and site name)
WW III is just the Eastern Front moved a bit west is all.
That and the fact that I served in NATO has kept my interest in the subject matter.
Good Hunting.

Now if you guys could 'upscale' the game engine to handle a more operational level, I'd be in heaven. I'm glad this is NOT a low level tactical game however my dream game would be NATO Bde units vs WP Divisions, think SPI's old The Next War.... love that game.

There have been some basic talks of melding another of Matrix' games with FPC. Though those have all been internal. Not sure that's where the system is going to go considering how much work that would be for both design coders.
Next War, NATO, GDW's masterpiece Third World War, etc....etc...etc...all in the game room. [&o]

Meld with Command!! haha. With your land-based component and their naval/air component, what a massive beast that would be!! [8D] The possibilities would be endless! I'm not sure if such a union would be possible or practical....but it sure is fun to think about. For now I'm just attempting to muster the resources to purchase both this and Command...
RE: Just wanna say...
Warsaw Pact vs. NATO has been one of my faves since I first got SPI's The Next War back in the late 70's. Follow that with the GDW Assault series. I'm big into gaming Warsaw Pact tactical & operational doctrine so this is right down my alley.
Just downloaded FC:RS today, played some of the tutorial for about an hour before I had to go to work, and it almost made me call off work so I could keep playing.
Great job guys!

Agreed! I was only around to get Command:MANO, but saw this in the new release area. Even though I hadn't been able to get into "hex" style wargames for years, I saw the initial first impressions were very good, so I bought it. Very glad I did! Even though I've only been through the Tutorial a few times to "cement" the concepts, I am loving it so far. Great implementation of WEGO, and the feel of "real time" during combat phase (with all the animations and such), sets it apart from the old school "hex" games that I got tired of.
As if Command:MANO wasn't enough of a timesink........(these two are really gonna cut into my GTA V time [:'(] )
RE: Just wanna say...
Battlefields maybe? That was going to be WEGO but WW2. Wish there was a coy level WEGO WW2 game. As for upscaling..personally I'd lose interest, it's rare anything above grand tactical peaks my interest, Decisive Campaigns and WW1Gold are the only games I've enjoyed.

They've got a great 'The Next War' scenario for TOAW III. Really well done and fun to play.
I love how FCP is grand tactical at platoon level, because it really hasn't been done much, and it does remind me of the games that got me into Wargaming in the 1st place. The last platoon-level NATO vs WP computer game I can recall was...Mech Brigade from 1985!

For myself my I really like the Red Thunder TOAW III scenario. Good pace, decent balance between the two forces and of course World War III in 1988. Perhaps if I can drag myself away from FC:RS for a few minutes (unlikely) I'll fire it up.

We couldn't afford a computer when I was young so I used to play SPI's 5th Corps and BAOR solo. They were part of the Central Front series and had a great Friction Point system where you could keep up a high-tempo but it quickly wore your units out. Combat was integrated with movement, IIRC

Gen. Freyberg: "Well, if you wave at them they'll usually wave back."
