Red force or Blue

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Red force or Blue

Post by deadsunwheel »

Just an informal poll (can't seem to find a way to make an actual poll in the forums)to see which side people generally prefer to play as. Personally I like playing as the Soviets. This is for two reasons.

Firstly I enjoy the challenge of trying to wield the huge and unwieldy hammer of the Soviet armoured force. Timing out all your assaults and making sure your units don't just end up getting eaten apart piecemeal takes a fair amount of planning, and luck. I would somewhat compare it to playing as the bombing force in Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich.

Secondly when I was in high school playing various WWIII games I always ended up as the Soviets. My opponent at the time was the one who owned the games so I had little choice in the matter. After a while I just developed an affinity for the Soviets and any tank starting with the letter "T".

So what about you? Are you for the Blue force and defending Freedom and Justice or the Red force driving on for International Brotherhood and Cooperation?

With an avatar of Chuikov and the moniker "Mad Russian" I guess it's pretty obvious I like playing RED. Since I made most of the scenarios I would hope I can play either one with some skill.

Prefer NATO, but hate the defense. Maybe someone will make a "counter-attack" campaign.

NATO for me.

Loving the scenarios. As my wife is Danish I cannot wait for the Danes and indeed French/Dutch/belgian forces to be modelled too.

The system just seems incredibly flexible when it comes to modern warfare.

Is there a recommended order to do the campaigns by the way?

Me, I'm definitely a blue type. I'm interested in red but passionate about blue.

I find both sides equally fascinating, but because of different reasons.

I have to say I find the response to this list pretty interesting at how balanced the community is between the two sides. Traditionally this is not what I have found locally. Then again I have grown up near a major Canadian air and army base so that may have biased things.

I also would love to see a NATO backhand blow sort of scenario. A NATO attack on a Soviet logistics convoy defended by a C Division would be cool. Then again perhaps there is one already, I have not checked out every mission yet.

I would say the scenarios are pretty well balanced. As much as can be for the opening week of the war, but I may be a bit biased...[8|]
