Withdrawal under fire

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Withdrawal under fire

Post by benpark »

What's the best method for disengaging units under direct fire? The game depiction of keeping this difficult is great (and brutal), I just wonder if people have any tactics for this situation.

I've tried smoking the hex with indirect artillery fire, then using a deliberate move to try to bug out...didn't work so well!

The problem with leaving a position in modern combat is one issue.

"If it can be seen, it can be hit. If it can be hit, it can be killed."

Couple that with the speed of modern combat movement on the battlefield, surviving a movement starts to get iffy. When you are sitting still you present less of a problem in surviving fire.

My own tactics, are to plan where I need my troops, set them and leave them. For better or worse. I end up have many guys that get bypassed.

I also understand that I have played the scenarios a few more times than the rest of you have. [:D]
