AI Hold Fire

Post by ExMachina »

If I understand it correctly, this option (which I don't see covered in the manual) basically overrides any Auto Attack that the player may have ordered as well as all automatic defensive fire (except for flairs, decoys and chaff)--is that correct?

Almost exactly. It also does not cover defensive fire performed during point-defence (the same phase where decoys, expendables & DECM jammers do their duty).

It's not in the manual because it was added well after the first edition of the manual went to the presses. (It was a highly-requested item from the beta folks).

Oh, and it was a great addition. Since I learned of its existence, I almost exclusively play with it ON [:)]

I usually only turn it OFF when a big missile raid is coming because it's hard to keep up with various platforms' illuminator status as a player.

Yeah. I hit pause a lot [:D] I save a lot of defensive missiles by allocating them all myself

I've done that too only to find that some missiles won't guide to intercept because the illuminator is busy. Usually just happens during really big raids.

I've seen that, but the I assume that the AI would have had the same limitation(?)
