Amphibious subunits

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Amphibious subunits

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Hi, what happens to an unit when subunits have different characteristics ? For instance I'd like to cross a river and my unit has both amphibious (BMP) and non-amphibious (T80s) elements in it.

Can I reorganize units so that all subunits share same characteristics ?

Do you mean moving sub-units from one formation to another? In the case of a mixed unit it should be defaulting to the worst case. In this case tanks would need a bridge or "swim" a shallow "river". I'll check with Rob on the actual case breakdown.

Simple, you either give it a movement order that takes it over the water obstacle where you want it to cross or you move adjacent to the water obstacle and tell it to build a bridge.

The results are two fold where water obstacles are concerned.

1) If you order a unit to build a bridge you always get a bridge.

2) If you tell a unit to move over the water obstacle they will try to use amphibious movement first and if not they will then build a bridge. The determining factor is if all subunits in the formation can use amphibious movement. If they can they will simply ford the river and not leave a bridge behind. If they aren't all amphibiously qualified they then build a bridge.

Good Hunting.
