Hex display ?

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Hex display ?

Post by 39battalion »

Sure looks like an interesting game.

I am on the buying brink.

Just one question to clarify : does the game have an option to turn off the hex display ?

Thx

No way to turn off the hexes. They are an integral part of the map graphics. Truth be told they put me off a little bit at first as well, but the game play is good enough to make you forget about them pretty quickly.

huh, i even didn't notice the hexes are displayed LOL
Well, to be honest they are not visible. I think the map is very well done.
Very nice looking.

nukkxx the hexes are visible on the maps with the slight hairline edging. While I agree that the maps are very attractive and very well done my personal aesthetic choice would have been to left the hex lines out. To my eye the hexes reduce the immersion factor of the game.

This is not to say that I would in anyway suggest this minor quibble should stop someone purchasing the game. All the good reviews floating around the forum are well merited. The designers implementation of WEGO, the intelligence of the AI, the novel subject matter, it's shallow learning curve and quite simply the way everything "works" together in a way that many games don't makes me think that this one is a must in any war gamers collection.

Thanks guys

I have to agree with deadsunwheel that visible hexes do reduce the immersion factor somewhat. Too bad there is no option to turn them off.

However the many positive comments about the game do make it a tempting purchase....

I also usually prefer to deactivate hexes grids. But as I said, in FCRS, it's not an issue at all for me and I love the map as it is. And the grid is not the usual ugly black lines grid.
But of course I understand the remark.
However it's maybe possible for the devs (who seem very reactive to the community comments) to offer the option to deactivate the layer in a future patch ?

Sadly, being part of the map artwork, there is no getting rid of them right now. I'm sure some players making maps to replace the originals and can address this issue. Now as said by the others the hex lines are faint and I don't notice them too much. All of the spotting and other range based functions/tools light up the hexes so you never lose them.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!
