Database - aircraft specification

Post by rafale »

I saw few videos on youtube (Baloogan's episodes) and something looks strange...

Ferry range for F/A-18A (internal fuel + 3x330gal ext tanks) is 1950 (+10% res.)
Ferry range for F/A-18D (internal fuel + 3x330gal ext tanks) is 1950 (+10% res.)

why?

A - version is ONE seat
D - version is TWO seats

in TWO seats version place for second seat is provided by a relocation of avionic equipment and a 6% reduction in internal fuel. Should be at least 6% difference between A-version range and D-version

If I saw/wrote something wrong please correct me

Thanks for reply Mike

I would like to add some info

F/A-18 A and C version
internal fuel 1670 gal + 3x300gal = 2660gal total

F/A-18 B and D version
1670gal - 6% = ca. 1570gal + 3x300 gal = ca. 2560gal total

if 2660gal is 100%, 2560gal is 96%
if 1950nmi is 100%, 96% is ca. 1875nmi

it could be like that because 1875nmi=3475km and I found in few monographs data like this:
ferry range int. + 3x300 gal:
F/A-18C 3750km
F/A=18D 3520km
