Swamps = Marshes?

The manual does not contain a terrain effects chart entry for swamps but does
contain one for marshes. I assume they are the same?

Humm... I screenshoted a terrain table from the manual. There are "marshes" and "bayou swamps". So it looks like they are different things after all.

I could not find a instance of 'marsh' on the map. There are numerous
cases of 'swamp' but I could not find a 'bayou swamp'.

You can use the map option for terrain (7 key) and the tool tip will tell you what the movement and combat penalties are.

There are swamps and marshes in the game. The swamps have some trees in graphic. It is just flavor thing. Combat penalties are the same.
