RE: Trojan alert when installing

Post by Erik Rutins »

I can confirm that's a false positive, the download is completely free of any malware, but many anti-virus programs misidentify large executables (like our games) on a regular basis. Let me know which anti-virus program you are using and we'll send them an e-mail to confirm that this is a safe program.

Are you logged in as an Administrator level user? Normally that would only happen if either an anti-virus/security program were interfering with the installation or if the installing user did not have the necessary permissions. Make sure your previous install is also not running, a quick reboot and try again may help.

That's very odd. What operating system are you running? Is the user account an Administrator level account or were you trying to just "Run as Administrator"? I agree that should work. Can't duplicate the issue here so far.

I use Windows 7 home Premium

i was using the "Run as Administrator" option. I don't think I know how to change to the Administrator user at my laptop. When I try to change user, I only get my normal user as a possibility in the menú.

Hm, ok - odds are that your user is the administrator then. Did you install to the default location when you ran the installer? Are you sure your anti-virus is completely turned off? Sometimes they still run in the background and can cause these kinds of odd issues, especially if they see something trying to write to Windows.

NO, to the bold. Usually it's not necessary, if so, maybe you should warn?

Antivirus is totally down AFAIK, and I should know. I will doublecheck.

EDIT: I closed every process that looked like antivirus related (e.g. Geekbuddy), run as Administrator (with the menú) and tried the default directory. Same error.

It should not be necessary - but if you chose to install under Program Files for example, that is a protected location within Windows and installing there can cause some odd issues for some programs. Regarding the anti-virus, please triple-check as it's very likely that's the cause of preventing the write to the Windows location.

Ok there is only one user "Ignacio" and the legend says it's the Admin. So, I am the only user and admin of my laptop.

It could be that your Windows UAC (User Account Control) or your Internet security package are interfering with the program installation.
Are you absolutely sure that Comodo is completely disabled?

Edit: And from where are you running the installer? From the desktop? If that's the case could you please try from a root folder in your HD?

I uncompress in a certain folder inside of the "Downloads" folder. Other times (I have tried about 14 times) in several others. I have downloaded twice the zip file, just in case. I am decompressing with 7Zip. I get 4 files. I am closing anything that I can see has to do with comodo, including a process (geekbuddy) where I had to go and terminate the "service" cause it wouldnt let me close the process otherwise.

Now it simply doesn't start the installer, which it did before, I don't get the questions "user name" "company" "key", ... like before.

I get now a "Windows has no Access to the dispositive, wrong route or file specified. Maybe you don't have the necessary permissions to Access the element."

I am executing (trying to ) the file from the folder.

Root, you mean C: or D:, right?

If i close all the files with "comodo " in the description, the installer simply doesnt run. dunno why.

See you tomorrow, here is about 12 pm.

Root folder is for example C:\foldername or D:\foldername.

The easiest way should be by uninstalling Comodo and install the game. After reinstalling Comodo you could also define an exclusion area:

Ok, I disconneted the antivirus but now I get another error message, this time from the installer:

Could not open the uninstall executable for writing : Access to C:\windows\World in Flames\ uninstall.exe was denied.

He's installing under the Windows folder itself!! Why?

"dispositive" in error message - that's from a non-English version of Windows, no? Though, it shouldn't matter.

Lastly, not being able to install to Program Files is not an indication of some obscure problem. It is an indication of faulty software development. With my installation, as soon as I saw that the default install folder was straight off the root folder (C:\Matrix Games\World in Flames\), I knew what was up, and accepted the suggested default location. I pretty much knew that any other folder might present problems.

Installing in the Windows folder is not a good practice. Furthermore, the folder Matrix Games was omitted from the path name. I'm not sure how the Windows folder replaced the Matrix Games folder, but I am pretty sure that is the trouble.

That's what I meant. I start at C:\ or D:\ and afterwars there is a c:\foldername in this case.

"I" am not installing under the window folder, I specify another place, the game starts installing there ( I can see the new folder and some files, but for some unexplained reason the program tries to write also in that Windows folder and the error message pops out. :)

I have been translating all the messages, the ones from my antivirus in spanish and the ones from my Windows in spanish. Forgive me if my technical English is not perfect. Dispositivo translates to Dispositive only for legal matters, for computing, it's device.

Well, I will need to try this afternoon, now I am about to start for my work, but I would bet at least the last installs, after Vpaulus advice to try with a root installation, I did it as you are saying. However, I still got that message...
