Oil &| Gas Platforms - Are in latest DB!

Post by brassem »

The existing facility oil rig is land based and a token.

I have scenarios in mind where it would be great to have ocean oil or gas platforms. It must have a heavy/med helicopter pad. Dumps for stores. And be able to host several compliments of personnel.

I am sure you know where I am heading with this.

[EDIT]; A very good point that I have now learned. ALWAYS check to make sure you are using the latest DB! And update your scenario projects accordingly.

I was using an earlier DB3000 but there is in fact three types of platforms in the latest DB3000. (Thank You!) Now to start adding them...

Class A's, B's and C's already there, ships > platform, helo pads and magazines.

Also if you're interested http://www.rigzone.com/data/results.asp?Region_ID=5 will give you plenty of names for real rigs and regions where they are. (example link is mideast)

If any body has a free link/site with exact lat/lon positions of off shore oil platforms, looking for hotspot areas not really the Gulf of Mexico, please share

You can cross reference some names here http://new.marinetraffic.com/en/ to get last known positions, this is a pretty cool site, displays near real time of some marine traffic with certain transponders near land stations capable of receiving those signals.

The North Sea Oil Platforms are in there under installations.

Now if only I knew what the plans were for these in the event of a Cold War scenarion.........

You can also create floating production facilities (FPSO's) by using a tanker, which is what I have done for the Australian North West Shelf and Timor Sea fields.

If you are looking for the exact location of the rigs and rigzone isn't helpful (I found it wasn't a complete list), try the oil company or government regulator websites as they often make documents such as from environmental assesments available to the public for comment. I found they include maps and precise locations for everything you will need, even pipelines or onshore facilities, but it is of course a rather tedious task. Otherwise at least here in Australia they also have exclusion zones around any drilling operation, which of course requires the government to tell people where they are and they also release details of these.

For rig locations etc, try looking amongst aeronautical publications, for example:-

http://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/eadbasic ... -01-10.pdf

I know that somewhere and I cannot find it but there is a document, pamphlet or map that lists the position exactly round the UK of all the rigs. I have one for my flight simulator.
