It is very inefficienct to use fighter to LCAP especially CV's fighter.Just order your CV to follow the fleet you wnat to CAP the fight will protect Both.your CV will still work with hit by 1-2 bomb.

While LRCAP can rack up the fatigue somewhat, it is extremly usefull. While your system is ok for relativly safe waters, to me to put my CVs in harms way by actually using them as escorts is a very risky buiseness.
One of the Cv's main advantages is lost, keeping the enemy at a distance.

What I normally do, is station a Cv tf behind my known convoy routes within LRCAP range and then support the various convoys going in and out of their destination. This way I also minimize sys dam due to constant movement of CV tf.

LR CAP

Useful, but needlessly dangerous in UV. It's an all or nothing venture, cover friendly TF with none over CVs, or the reverse.

Perhaps I should point out to say, I would not use a single Cv tf to provide LRCAP over convoys as you are right it is leaving yourself open. Example I would do is say a 2CV tf 1 squadron flies LRCAP , other on 70 - 80 percent CAP over CV's, or if had the aircraft would swap out 1 of the bomber squadrons for a fighter squadron and use the same way.
When you think about it, using CV's this way defensivly is no more wrong than offensivly as if flying a strike you have many of your fighters flying escort and so not available as CAP.

As we all know there are gonna be situations where convoys need some protection, but are outta range of friendly LBA. This to me is a solution I use, wether it is ideal ,I doubt it but it is a pretty horriffic picture seeing a whole convoy decimated because it had no support whatsoever.

Well why not use the CVEs for TF prtection? After all that was what they were designed for............yeah yeah, I know that you don't get them till early '43, but I though that I would just point it out anyway;)
