Fast Start Barbarossa- align minors

Why can't both Finland and Hungary be aligned? After I select one and place the units the align form disappears.

Is it safe to assume that Finland is the one you want to align first? A good reason to elect to align Hungary first or possibly none at all?

Best reason to wait a little when aligning Finland is that until you put their guys on the board, they exist in a kind of Heisenberg uncertainty principle space; they can be setup anywhere within the Finnish territory. Once you align them and set them up, you're stuck with where you deployed them, and the Soviets can quickly move to counter you.

Keep them unaligned and you can keep the Soviets guessing, which means you can set up to pounce on any weaknesses that develop.

I just sent an e-mail to Jefferson city about this changing of Reb's Avatar, I was going to also send the e-mail to Governor Jay Nixon until I found out he is not in the same party as his namesake so I nixed [pun] that e-mail cause nothing would get done [:D]

But if you align Finland during the first impulse then they might be able to make use of a surprised USSR.

Finland is going nowhere against a good Russian player. I find it more handy to align Hungary first. They can set up and slip in behind the Russian border positions in Poland (or force the Russians to move units around to watch them).

Then I am not a good USSR player. I can seldom defend the border against Finland so they can't cause mischief in the Barbarossa scenario.

How many units do you set up in defence of Murmansk? How many reserves?

For the Barbarossa scenario in particular, I think Finland's role is not as big because lend-lease isn't in play. I usually put a white print infantry and a ski unit up there as the Russians. Leningrad gets an artillery unit and one other unit to go with its first turn reserve. I do have a tendency to put planes in Leningrad and usually Odessa where they can have an impact on the war and are not really subjected that much attention from the Luftwaffe.
