Show-stopping non-bug

Post by khucke »

During the Reinforcement Phase of the Nov/Dec 1939 turn of the Global War scenario I was to set up a Communist China corps in Sian. I couldn't, probably because there were already two corps in the hex and therefore the stacking limit was reached. Unfortunetely I wasn't able to place the unit anywhere else, all hexes seemed to be illegal. Worse still I wasn't able to forfeit this reinforcement and advance to the next phase. The advance button is greyed. So I'm stuck with my unplacable Chinese corps (unless I missed something, which I certainly not impossible)and can't advance.

See if this works. Select the unit and then go to the Command header in the main form and choose Show Valid Moves. Worth a try.

Or simply select the unit and press Ctrl+M

Thanks for the suggestion. But no success. A message window pops up saying "There are no valid moves".
While technically not a bug I think this has to be adressed. A player should either lose the unit or have its arrival postponed if there are no valid hexes for placement.

That's odd because I was able to set up the chinese with no problem.

This happened in the Nov/Dec game turn, not during initial setup. I think it has to do with the fact that the destination hex of the unit is occupied by two other units already, thus enforcing the stacking limit rule against a third one.

Did you also have 2 corps there as stated by khucke?

Can you use an autosave from the last Chinese land movement so one of the two units could be moved? Each side has a series of autosaves at each phase of the game. I have used them a LOT so far lol.

Is Lan-Chow also fully stacked?

The Chinese Communists start with 2 cities in their control, unless the Additional Chinese Cities Option is turned ON and then they should have Yenan as well.

And Off-City Placement must be turned OFF, I'm thinking. If Lan-Chow and Si-An were both fully stacked and Off-City Placement were turned ON, a new unit could be placed adjacent to Si-An.

Most Communist Chinese units should be able to set up in any city held by the Communist Chinese. There are a half dozen of those if you are playing with the optional rule Additional Chinese Cities. Turn on the flags to find the cities controlled by the Communist Chinese.

Exceptions are Warlords and Militia which need to be placed in their home cities.

If the optional rule Off-City Reinforcements is ON, units should be able to set up in hexes adjacent to their city when their home city is fully stacked - provided the adjacent hex is not in an enemy ZOC.

Failing all those conditions, the program should place the unit as a reinforcement to arrive next turn. When it does this, it should display an informative message.

If none of the above solves the problem, then this is a bug. We would like to have saved game of the situation if you have one available; please send to MadExcept@MatrixGames.com

Okay, I think I understand the problem. The Sian Militia unit has to set up in Sian. If it is fully stacked, then it should be delayed until the next turn. However, if you are playing with the optional rule Off-City Reinforcements, then it should be able to be placed in a hex adjacent to Sian.

I fixed a bug related to Militia Reinforcements with a recent version (I forget which one). If you can recreate this problem, I would like to have a saved game. For now, I am going to assume that the correction I made for the bug with the Warsaw Militia unit needing to arrive in Warsaw (it was fully stacked) is the same as the bug you had with the Sian Militia unit. Again, if I am wrong and you can recreate this problem, please let me have a saved game so I can fix the bug.
