Ja BP to US disappeared

Post by Courtenay »

The US and Japan have a trade agreement, four US resources for one Japanese build point. In my current game, the four US is sending four resources to Japan, but Japan is not sending the US the required build point. All required convoys are on the map, and this was happening in S/O 39, before any US entry options were picked.

I can send save files for German set up, an axis impulse in the middle of the turn, or either production planning phase, if desired. All show four US resources going to Japan, and nothing coming back. The German-USSR trade
agreement is working fine.

Do you have a US convoy next to the Philippines? I have seen the US using that convoy to get the resource back to the US and thereby usurping the US convoys in the Pacific for the Japanese build point. If this is happening in your case, you can set the Philippines resource to a default of Idle and the program should ignore it, letting the BP wend its way across the water to California.

I have the same problem, the japanese build point to US never arrives. There is a US convoy next to the Philippines, convoying the resource there to China through Hanoi.

Are the US convoys in the Pacific 'unused'?

If not, then what are they doing if not convoying the BP back to the US? You can check that using the Production Planning form, its insert global map, and clicking (left? right?) on the sea area. It will then filter the resources list to just those resources going through the sea area.

Let me know if you can't figure this out. We would like to have a saved game for analysis (MadExcept@MatrixGames.com).

It definitely has something to do with having a convoy chain to the Philippines. Unfortunately, setting the Philippine resource to "idle" just sets the Philippine resource to idle; it does not restore the Japanese build point. Will send you a zip of a save file.

Thanks.

I think the problem is related to shipping of resources. The Alaskan resource is shipped through Gulf of Alaska to Vancouver. However, without a spare (sixth) convoy in West Coast, this resource is shipped through West Coast instead, thereby blocking the JP BP. I had five convoys in West Coast, thats why the BP was lost. With six convoys in West Coast the BP gets to the US, and the sixth convoy is displayed as unused.

I have noticed a similar problem with Italy where I need two convoys in each of West Med and Italian Coast to ship the resources from Algeria and Sardinia. Both resources are only shipped through one sea area, but without the extra convoy one resource is idle.

I think the cure for all this is to 'lock' the convoy chain to Japan so it cannot be used for any other purpose. The code already exists to do that for the Japanese convoys in the chain. I just need to clone that code for the US.
