Load and Go

Post by ChadS »

Hello,

Returning to the game after a long lay-off, and so far, very happy with my decision to pick it up again.

Can someone confirm that I'm recalling how the process of loading/transporting works? I believe this works with troops/supply/fuel, in pretty much the same way.

Create a TF.
Dock the TF, and select "Load Supplies."
Click Set Destination, and select the destination on the map.
When the TF has finished loading, it will depart.
Upon arrival, it will dock if possible, and it will begin to unload supplies. (I actually can't recall if this is automatic or not...)

If the TF is set to Retirement Allowed, once it is done unloading, it will return to its home port. If not, it will stay.

If the TF returns home, and is set to Auto-Disband, it will disband, otherwise it will stay in the port.

Does that check out as correct? Thanks so much!

Mostly. The TF will not automatically dock at the destination. That allows a sort of 'port master' routine in the code to allow any available ships to unload at the dock space (as long as the port still has sufficient ops points remaining) to unload without a ship (that has already used up its own ops points for the day) hogging the dock space.

You may want to consider using way points as well. A direct route from Australia to San Francisco will route you probably farther north than you will be comfortable with.

Thank you!

So, is it a good idea to dock TFs that arrive and are delivering supplies, or is it better to just let the routine handle it, then?

Regards!

I guess it depend. If the TF is just routine convoy, I don't bother micromanage. On the other hand, some important TFs I want to unload quickly, so I manually dock them.

For your supply convoys try and make sure they can do the trip without refueling and set them to "Do not refuel" so you don't drain fuel from your destination ports- which requires more shipping. As allies your early war tanker capacity is very limited. You may also want to turn off some heavy industry in Australia.

Remember that some heavy cargo must have a large enough port to be able to dock. Zero level ports will not unload certain equipment and one may depending on how big the ship is

I dock the TF's that I want to load/unload quickly, or have large items in the LCU that require dock facilities to load/unload (some Base and CD units have large components that require cranes, etc or they won't unload at all). For generic supply TF's I don't bother unless there's nothing else at the port right then.
