RE: Where is the SS
Hello,
SS is modelled with Elite Infantry units which are not part of the core. They are given and taken by the game in certain scenarios. In the Lwow map there are some, you can spot them if you use F1 to get the strategic view & counters - the balck ones are those you are looking for.

Nice.
Missing the correct names here, but I can do this by my self.
Will there later in the campaign SS Panzer units show up?

Hello Templer,
we reduced the names for obvious reasons. The campaign ends before those units were transformed into Panzerdivisions, so they do not reappear in that role so far.

RE: Where is the SS
The SS can be spotted easily in the counter views.
But you can't identify them at first glance on the sprites.
Will you make the more visual in a future patch?
Fit them with camouflage uniforms perhaps?

RE: Where is the SS
Your art cover for the game shows SS (so far I know, only SS was equipped with camouflage).
The SS, in a very unpleasant way, still remains something special.
I would like to distinguish the SS easy right away from the regular Wehrmacht.
By the way, are you standing firm behind the combat values of the SS?
I find them a bit too weak. To weak to separate against the Wehrmacht.
At least one Point for attack and defense vs. infantry.

RE: Where is the SS
Hello,
No, the cover does not show the SS. Its shows men of the Großdeutschland, the Wehrmachts elite unit, that also had camouflage. You can distinguish them by the cuffbands: the SS wore them on the left arm, while the Großdeutschland had them on the right.
I see you point and we will add a texture for them to make them stand out more.
So far nobody has brought this up. The elite units have a bonus, no other unit has: They cause 5% damage to the combat readiness of the enemy to simulate the fierceness of their engagements.
We could pimp them a bit i guess as their combat record would justify +1 Att/Def against infantry.

Again something learned.
As you know, the SS often was called "Front Feuerwehr" (front fire brigade).ORIGINAL: Ronald Wendt

And we know the SS was very brutal, but also well known for there extreme and ruthless combat power.
Dem Tod nehmen, den Tod geben (Take the death, give the death).
The combat effectiveness of the SS should be reflect this.
Bad thing - The Waffen-SS: horror and fascination.
I say yes, pimp it by +1 Att/Def against infantry.
Don't know what about armor?

RE: Where is the SS
Hello,
as far as i know they did not have better PaK units than the Heer. Men to men they sure were exeptional, but they could not improve the guns.
For that a higher amount of experience would be the adequate adjustment which will increase each single value in combat.

For sure SS units didin't have better/different guns (except SS units got first pick for Panthers/Tigers etc) than regular Wehrmacht
units. However they did have more of them in OB. They also had a lot better replacement rate for equipment than regular german
army units. In other words, they were better equipped as well.

RE: Where is the SS
Hello von altair,
in GaW there are currently only 41/42 units of the SS and those had pretty much the same stuff and same amount of guns as Wehrmacht units according to our sources. This refers to the basic structure. Some, like "Das Reich" had an additional StuG battery or a Flak Abteilung (Wiking), but nothing different in general. So this should be modelled with the support units GaW offers, not with higher values from the start.

RE: Where is the SS
How do I get the graphic icon shown above instead of the 3-d or nato icons? I have 1.04 and don't see that option.
Thanks!
Thanks!

If you're going to give "special snowflake" icons and bonuses to the SS, I hope Soviet elite units get special icons and bonuses too.
I'm always a little uneasy when wargames give the SS cool stuff like black counters and extra bonuses when no other elite unit in the war gets them. Borders on creepy.

Here are the Soviet Guards!
Hello Fintilgin,
we really do hear you here and couldn't agree more. There is a system for Soviet Guards in the game and they have their advantage. Of course they have a special counter, too.
There is an event in the game that announces the moment these features come into the game (18th September 1941, official introduction of Guards status for units "that have dinstinguished themselves in battle") and the player can give units that status if it has a certain level which depends on the unit type. Also this is just the Guards status for infantry, others follow according to the first historical nomination in a weapons branch.
This game is not about glorifying one side but about getting as close as possible to the features of the participants.
The guards would look like this (note the golden frame and different red):
