What do I exactly need for the DaBabes mods?

Post by Lonewolf »

I have no problem backing up old data before overwriting but I am all confused about the mods!!! I don't really care about old save games either at this stage.

Game version use: Unofficial Public beta 1123u Nov 16, 2013. tm.asp?m=3185062
Scenarios patches: tm.asp?m=3198064

In DaBabe site https://sites.google.com/site/dababeswitpae/home I see a section called Extended Map https://sites.google.com/site/dababeswitpae/map-and-art There are 2 subsections. What do I need from there? Whats all these "with SL", "without SL", and "New Asia Roads"? What this Stacking Limit thing mentioned there?

After those... What about the scenarios? Can I use the stock scenarios (with beta patches)? Or do I need those from DaBabes site?

The Beta .exe patches work anywhere, anytime, with any scenario, any map mods, anything. The beta patches are tweaks to the CODE, nothing else, and the code, is the code, is the code, and it will do its code thing on any scenario (data) or map (data) that you use. It don’t care: it’s the code, and it rules. Beta patches are independent of any and all scen modifications (or none) and can be updated at any time. They are available solely and exclusively through michaelm at tm.asp?m=3185062 use michalem’s betas for anything and everything, Amen.

The Extended Map thing is in 2 parts (that work together and must be loaded together): the new Map Art and the new Map Data (pwhexe.dat, pwzlink.dat, and pwzone.dat) that is map specific and corresponds to the new Map Art. The new Map Data tweaks the map in accord with the new Art files, which are a bit different from stock. Once the map has been tweaked, only those scenarios that use the new Map values will function correctly. You NEED a scenario that is adapted to the new Map data files. Conversely, an ‘official’ stock scenario is not adapted to the Extended map and so will NOT work with it.

Some scenarios are offered in alternatives: Babes (Big, Lite, Iron)-A scenarios are adapted to work with the stock Map and stock Map data files. Babes (Big, Lite, Iron)-B and C scenarios are adapted to work with the Extended Map data files. Other scenarios like RA are adapted to work with the Extended Map data files.

Stacking limits (SL) and the gnarly road tweaks are subsumed into the pwhexe.dat file. You may not want them, but they are there. Point to point replacements for the pwhexe.dat file that you have. We assume a certain degree of technical competence. Same with the roads.

Thank you Symon.

Based on what you said:
Stock Map/Data: I can only use the "A" scenarios from Babes.
Extended Map/Data: the B, C, Small Scenarios, and RA Mode.

As for Stacking Limit. Are they included in the Stock Map/Data? From my understanding "stacking limit" is the max number of troops you can put there before some inefficiencies start. Close enough? If I use the data marked "Without SL", does it mean I can stack whatever I want on each hex?

Small islands have stacking limits even in the stock game.

Otherwise stacking is unlimited everywhere else in stock.

Stacking limits are in specifically noted drop-in, drop-out pwhexe.dat files. There is a set for the Extended Map, there is a set for the Stock Map. They may be used or not, at a player's option.

As Hans says, there are certain stacking limits for certain island sizes that are hard coded and always obtain. The SL data files address everything else on the basis of many other factors.
