Request help managing groups of airplanes

Once a flight is airborne is there a way to split it or reassign it, I figured out I can change leaders (I don't really know why I would do that), but cannot figure out how to divide a flight of 4 into 2 flights of 2.

Hello,

Switch into unit-view (PgUp or Keypad-9), select the unit you wish to detach from the group and press "D" to detach it. Repeat as necessary. Then multi-select the detached units you wish to group together and press "G".
