Totally destroying a pirate faction

Hi there, a new player here. I have found this forums advices vital to play this game, the complexity level is both awesome and astonishing.

There is a single item i have found bothersome, and it is my inhability to totally destroy a pirate faction. During midgame of my more advanced game, i have left two pirate factions without both ships and bases, but they still have some facilities on colonies bolonging to my allies. Is because of that fact that those faction still exist? Is there a way to destroy those facilities without enganging in war with my allies?

Welcome to the forum, Mekorig! I understand what you are saying concerning the ability to totally destroy a pirate faction. You can eliminate their spaceports, military ships, freighters, mining stations, but their hidden bases, fortresses, and network facilities are untouchable on planets belonging to other empires. I do not see any way around this problem, at this time. If eliminating pirate factions is part of your victory goals, they are unattainable. At least these factions will not be able to cause you any future problems or competition.

Well, you could always research bombardment tech

I am not sure what chance bombardment is able to destroy these facilities. Maybe someone else on the forum has some experience with this.
