Two questions

Germany At War: Operation Barbarossa 1941 is an elegant turn-based design, inspired by classics such as Panzer General, but with more of a historical focus. You command the German forces through a branching historical campaign covering the entire 1941 campaign as well as part of the 1942 campaign. Dozens of scenarios stretch from the Soviet border all the way to Archangel and towards Astrakhan, the original military goals of Operation Barbarossa. Step into a wargame where your performance will rewrite history, through an addictive combination of compelling gameplay, realistic events and challenging battles.

Two questions

Post by elmo3 »

How is the balance in the PBEM scenarios? Played a lot of PC by PBEM but never felt like the scenarios were well balanced for that mode.

Is there a replay of the enemy turn when playing PBEM?

Thanks.

Its hard to judge the balance as there are not many AARs or much feedback on this topic, but scenarios can be adjusted by the players if they want to. You can play any single map you like or designed yourself by uploading it to the server when you start a new challenge.

There is no replay, but a combat protocol that lists every single engagement with all details.

OK, thanks for the quick reply. Maybe a better wording of my question on balance would have been whether the scenarios are designed and tested for PBEM or solo play against the AI.

Downloaded the demo and will give it a look.

I prefer PBEM, and the performance was flawless from day-one, compared to some other Matrix releases that are getting fixed. I would like a way to communicate with the other player, however. Bottom line, at $20 with the new patch, buy it and you can always pound on me [;)]

It's a good game when you simply don't have the energy for WitE.

in 1.04 some are adjusted especially with multiplayer games in mind, so they have different victory conditions than the single maps.

This is true for maps that showed some flaws, e.g. at Moscow it was too easy for the Soviets to sit and wait to the end while the Germans had to do all the work. In the new version there now is a draw to "punish" a lazy Soviet player who does not attack towards Volokolamsk, or a German player who does not risk all to get into Moscow.

Again you can play maps you edited yourself to adjust possible flaws and we are always happy to consider critism and suggestions for updates.
