<SPOILER>

"One Orion from 11 Sqn out of RAAF base Edinburgh has just arrived as is being refuelled and reamed ASAP"

Um, typo? :-D

Interesting scenario. I liked it a lot.

<SPOILER>

The "limited war" aspect of it is good, and the manageable scale that goes with that.
"Your orders as Commander, Task Force Darwin, are..."

My sparse assets (both numbers and type) is good too. Challenging and realistic.

The only thing I have plenty of is neutral merchants. They're all over the damn place, and cluttering up my sensor picture. What good is that...

<EVEN MORE SPOILER>

Enemy is hard to find -- the littorals are tricky, and I only have one ship with decent sonar.
Where the hell are they hiding?

My single Orion is carrying out its "ASW Patrol" at 28000 feet and dropping no sonobouys. <sigh>
Right, micromanagement time...

Figuring out the enemy's location using the dying hulls of neutral merchants as bread crumbs wasn't the original plan. Glad diplomacy isn't my job-- there will surely be repercussions.
Still, clues are clues.

My score is 0.

Shows how very annoying subs can be. People think about torpedoes, but mine-laying matters at least as much. Did the "bread crumbs" die from torpedoes, or mines? I will never know.

Patience, patience, patience.

A sub? in MY territorial waters? WTF?
Classified as Han class! I know where you live, you bastards!
SUNK! And Your Little Dog, Too!

My score is still 0.

I see my Orion "ASW patrol" has gone back up to 28000 feet and is dropping no sonobouys. Again. <sigh>
More micromanagement.
GOBLIN #15 detected in the West Passage!
I'LL KILL YOU!

Nope, my Orion has climbed up high, again. Invalid altitude for torpedoes.
My explicit orders were completely ignored. Again.
What the hell part of "1000 feet" don't you people understand???

OK, explaining in short words.
"fly down near the water"
"no, I don't care how nice it looks from up there"
"because sub is in the water"
"no, sub is bad"
"yes, I am quite sure"
"kill sub with torpedo now"
"yes, I am quite sure"
"alright, fine. PLEASE."

Finally!!!
GOBLIN 15 is sunk!
My score is still 0.

Hmm, wonder if there are any more...

(note to self: wonder how many mines an Ohio-class SSGN could carry in its missile tubes? 300+, I figure)

All in all, an excellent scenario. Plausible, challenging, and lots of fun!
Scoring needs to be fixed, though.

IWS, thanks for a very amusing critique :-)..[:D]

The poor RAAF crew on that Orion have had a bad day it seems, must have been the 'reaming'...

did you find any mines ?

thanks for the positive feedback :-)

I had forgotten about the scoring, there is allot to do to make even small scenarios, my hat off to those how makethe large and complex ones

cheers

Didn't find any mines with my minesweepers, but not sure I was doing it right-- haven't done much minesweeping before.
I gave each one a region and minesweeping mission, and they puttered around happily with their sonar active.

There's a good chance I found a mine with one of the neutral merchants, though.
That is, one of them blew up and I never did find a sub near it...
