Randolph's Racket (1954)--new scenario for testing

Post by Mgellis »

Here is my newest almost-ready-for-release-I-hope scenario, Randolph's Racket (1954).

It is 1954 and tensions between Egypt and Israel are at the crisis point. Egypt has threatened to attack merchants headed for Israeli waters. American forces in the eastern Mediterranean (centered on CV 15 Randolph, with an air wing consisting of F-2 Banshees, F-9 Cougars, and AD-4 Skyraiders) are ordered to protect American merchant vessels en route to Israel. Egypt has only a few ships, but it does have a fair number of British Meteors and British Vampires...

Please let me know what you think, what can be done to improve it, if there are any errors or issues with the Events, scoring, etc. Thanks!

(I found this one fairly difficult to beat, so I'm curious about how challenging people find it.)

Anyone have any thoughts on this one? Anything I need to fix?

Thanks.

I am really enjoying it so far!

Spoilers:

I am currently having an Egyptian Vampire that in wide circles are trying to descend (probably to bombing altitude) over DD 859 Norris. The Vampire are being chased by F-9F-6 Cougars that have had the vampire in their gun-sights for around 20 minutes now. If that vampire pilot tries anything then he is either really stupid or just over motivated (and most certainly not any more).

I would really want some expanded ROE options for these kind of scenarios. Something that can make you call up the agressor and kindly ask them to stop flying attack profiles against your surface ships for example. If they do not comply, then you can initiate hostilities and of course take a penalty for it. I hate waiting for the bombs to be in the air before starting to defend myself, I mean airliners have been shot down for less threatening behaviour...

Good scenario, not that difficult as stated in the description IMHO.

Spoiler:

A Vampire actually managed to get a hit on my CV, due to me miss-managing altitudes for my CAPs. Those old airframes cant dive as fast as I am used to.
Minor flooding and a broken elevator, but nothing critical, and I managed to get all merchants safely to Israeli waters. All in all it required quite a lot of micromanaging to be able conduct proper intercepts. No own losses. Minor damages on the CV and one of the merchants (from the initial attack that you cant protect against since you ROE state so).

It would add a bit surprise to have a russian/french/italian warship or surveillance aircraft coming from an unexpected direction. With the generic ESM suite you would not be able to tell if it is a threat or not until you investigate it.

Working on it, good so far. Getting used to the older airframes is the trick, turning a Banshee around to catch up with the Egyptian birds takes about a day and a half [:D]. All good but can only do a bit at a time due to real life getting in the way[:(]

Oooo...I like that idea! It makes sense, too, since the Mediterranean can be a busy place.
