New Scenario for testing Caspian.

Post by Flankerk »

Think this is getting there, could do with feedback on scoring, postures and generally how easy etc it is from each side. (Russia, Iran, and Turkmenistan playable_

Slightly different area (Caspian) and some definitely different ships........

Before the scenario even starts National Oil Companies side has lost:
SIDE: National Oil Companies
===========================================================

LOSSES:
-------------------------------
26x Platform [Class B, 70000t]
128x Platform [Class A, 90000t]
36x Platform [Class C, 50000t]

Doesn't effect any scoring it appears, just in my first playthrough as Russia it freaked me out for a minute.

I played as Iran, after sinking the Azerbijanski flot south of Baku I continued north, where the Turkmen unleashed their barrage of 32 Kh-35s on the Caspian Flotilla before I could get in position. The Russians never even attempted to fire an offensive weapon and died even less gloriously than the 2nd Pacific Squadron. Some of the remaining Turkmani missiles found maritime traffic, it seems they didn't fully understand the concept of littoral combat in a heavily trafficked area.

I only had time to fully play it through once, so I'm not sure if this stuff was a result of my game or the scenario, but the Russians were well within range of enemy ships and never attacked even when attacked and unfortunately the Turkmen just launched salvo after salvo until rounds were expended resulting in missiles flying around looking for targets resulting in civilian ships being sunk. Could just be my playthrough though.

I think its a great scenario though, the attention to the smallest details is great. It certainly beats the pants off my Caspian scenario I have been working on.

Thanks, will take a look at the postures for Russia as I thought they'd have an easy time of it!
The rigs are odd, I manged to import a North Sea Oil Rig Inst then deleted it, so surprised it showed up in losses to be truthful.

What were you working on? Did wonder about a different Caspian scn, perhaps Cold War Era but completely different set up then.

I was/am working on a scenario involving the Caspian's other resource, the sturgeon. Kinda stalled on it based on not being happy with placeholder Kazakh ships. Also started work on a 1985ish Soviet invasion of Iran scenario that focused on the Caspian operations, then I was planning to work on a 1977 version of that, but never got around to starting it.
