SM-2MR Blk III/IIIA/IIIB range issue

Post by incredibletwo »

Hi all!

According to the US Navy, the range for SM-2 Blk III/IIIA/IIIB (RIM-66K/L/M) is up to 90nm, yet in the db it states 50nm for all:
http://www.navy.mil/navydata/fact_displ ... =1200&ct=2

FAS and Global Security both have the same, up to 90nm (maybe they copied and pasted[;)] ):

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ ... -specs.htm

And something I just found on the Phoenix loadout!! hehe [:D]

If the Navy says, it must be so [8D]

Cheers!

What are you talking about!? I'm not trolling. I'm trying to build a scenario, and as I come to a discrepancy, I report them, just like everyone else. I'm trying to help, in the same way I sent over 700 images for the db. Was that trolling or annoying?

Every post I've put on here has been in good faith. I've provided references, and engaged in what I thought was constructive dialogue.

If your database is flawed or has errors, accept it. Don't attack one of your CUSTOMERS because said errors/omissions/flaws are discovered and pointed out.

And another point: I'm not queue-jumping. Where on Earth did you get THAT from!?

Now, you're the mod. You can choose to let the community see this or not. I'll put your completely inappropriate response down to you having a bad day, and move on with a clean slate. But I will continue to point out database errors if I discover them. After all, that's part of the reason for this forum, is it not?

Thank-you, and goodday to you sir.

Hm the range is 50nm for the SM-2 in Command which is 5nm less than Patriot which has a 55nm. Patriot is a 900kg weapon while SM-2 is a 700kg weapon, so makes sense.

Designation System says 40nm:
http://www.designation-systems.net/dusrm/m-66.html

So official ranges are all over the place [8D] But then again, what does 'range' mean, anyway [;)]

The SM-2 rocket booster/sustainer supposedly burns for 30 seconds. No way that is enough to propell it 90nm downrange and still hit a non-cooperating target.

Feel free to prove me wrong though.

The point being there is a vast difference between a theoretical range and operational. Engagements aren't straight lines and perfect parabolas. Somebody should post that on Global Security one day[:)]

We do appreciate all your efforts and sorry things took a turn.
