Weapon system upgrades -- when?

Post by Toro »

Hi all,

Has anyone compiled a list of when certain weapon system upgrades occur in this game? Like, when should I be sending my DDs back home for better ASW and AA weaps, etc.? I've seen listings for a/c upgrades, not weapon systems.

This just seems to be a facet of the game I don't quite have my hands around yet.

Hi
I dont think in the limited time frame of the campanes that it would make much diffence.
They will probably include this in the Pacific War Campain when it comes out

We will have to wait and see

Hi M,

I know we're looking at a more limited scope here, but the manual (IIRC) does mention sending ships back home for refit, and I've heard others making note of sending DDs home for upgraded AA and such. Mostly I'm just interested in knowing if there are set dates for when specific upgrades are available. After all, as a theatre commander, I would know that some new AA gun was just developed back home, and that by sending my ships back to Pearl or Japan, they'd be upgraded.

Anyway, Matrix gurus, if there is some timeline or such for new systems, any way we can be given a spreadsheet of the info?

Thanks.

There is a weapons/radar systems upgrade feature. When you send a ship back to Pearl Harbor/Tokyo, it gets those upgrades when it is released back to you.

What the table is, I don't know...

I think there is a post out there that mentions that most ships go through 2 levels of upgrades. Send it back to Pearl (or Tokyo) and you get the first upgrade. When it returns, send it back again and get your second.

These upgrades are standard generic upgrades...the weapons systems may vary slightly from what the actual loadout of the ship was towards the end of the war, but they are close enough to reflect the ships class loadout.

Assumptions were probably made for older model ships that did not survive the war as to the type of upgrades that they would receive.

Another assumption was probably that you would not send something back twice before around '44, so if you do that you may actually see a '45 weapons set a bit earlier in the game than you should.

It would be neat to test this out...perhaps on of these days when I get the time. Play on 7 day turns and just blast through the ships returning them to the homeports for upgrades.

This post deals with a couple of these issues...maybe Ron can shed some more light on this subject.

Thanks for the posts guys.

I sent a few DD's with the .50 cals back and I was surprised to see them on there way back to me right away!

I think the turn around time was only about two weeks! :o

Not bad for the upgrades I got IMHO. So, from now on those old junkers get run ragged until their SYS damage is in the 20s then back to Pearl they go! :D

Thanks again! :)

I have AWFULL luck getting anything sent back to me in my games. The one exception was in a PBEM game when he Lex got pasted early and was sent back to Pearl in Aug 42. I finally got her back in March 43 -- and she has a lot more AA guns, a better radar system, and the eight inchers were gone.

The at-start heavy cruisers and many of the distroyers have very poor AA armament. This can be a big factor in carrier battles. That is the difference between losing a carrier or not.

I start to rotate them out to Pearl as soon as I get some reinforcments (situation allowing).

It does not seem to matter when in the campaign that you send them out. The upgrades are standard. As far as I can tell, it is the first upgrade that is the most important for the at-start ships as they have pitiful AA to begin with. There is no time limit or availability date. You can send them right away and get the same upgrades.

Many at start ships have no radar. You at least get SC radar when they return and it is the presence of radar that begins to give the edge to Allies ships in surface actions. The more and better- the better your chances of defeating the long lances.
