Surrender modifiers

Post by Marshall Ellis »

Hello all:

Looking for a little input for some AI changes.

Tell me some modifiers that the AI should look at when deciding whether to surrender...

1. Military situation
2. Timing
3. Political status
4. Other areas

Would like some elaboration if possible.

Thank you
Thank you

Hello Marshall,

here some thoughts in the context of AI-surrender:
1st military status is the most important
2nd strong or weak allies
3rd political standing - is the nation close to instability or even fiasco zone
4th save fleets or Corps from destruction -- don´t know if this can be programed

another point for the AI if at war is that the Corps should be stacked together, as most human players do that.

so far at first

Good stuff Pans!

This is an odd dog because in EiANW it is better to surrender early and save your army AND no surrender takes you out of the game. Surrender early and get back into the Polticial Status/VP game because that's what it's all about! That's more difficult to program that it sounds.

Here is what we are doing:

1. Civil disorder is automatic unconditional.
2. We are checking how many forces we have on the map vs how many our enemies.
- We fixed some issues here where we were not caluclation this properly so nations were holding out longer than they should have.
3. We are checking to see how many enemy factors are in our home nation.
4. Is our capital in danger or occupied.

All of the above have a modifier weight.
Thank you

If you're still interested then Russia should be harder to surrender than just the loss of Moscow. Historically the French capture of Moscow did not bring a surrender. The original rules I think required the loss of both St Petersburg AND Moscow which seems more reasonable. If not then allow the Russians 6 months to retake Moscow?

Another consideration to stop "gamey" wars and "immediate" peace would be to enforce a minimum war duration of a least 6 months (for example) with countries so people don't just peace out straight away. If two countries go to war then they should have to fight for a reasonable duration.
