New Beta V1.07.15 for WitE

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

New Beta V1.07.15 for WitE

Post by Andrew Loveridge »

Hello All,

We have a new Public Beta in the Members Club.

This public beta includes a number of important fixes we would like you to check before making this update official next week. Please try it over the weekend and verify these have been properly addressed.

V1.07.15 – April 2, 2014
New Features and Rule Changes[/b] [ul] 1. Split Soviet Tank and Mechanized Corps retain their attached support units (one per brigade) like German regiments.
Bug Fixes
    1. Fixed critical bug with combat values going below 0 (integer overflow) resulting in easiest capture of strongest hexes. 2. Fixed important bug with too small impact of FOW on combat values. 3. Hopefully fixed important bug with Corps Artillery Regiments being recognized as Corps units (which resulted in wrong support unit assignment besides other undesired effects). 4. Fixed bug with support units attached to fort units, divided German divisions and divided Soviet corps not getting any supplies. 5. Fixed bug in assignment of support unit to fort units (display corruption, assignment failed). 6. Fixed display bug with initial combat values going below 0 (integer overflow) - unfortunately this will cause display mismatch (x10) when looking at battles fought under old version. 7. Fixed display bug with dense terrain modifier being not included in initial combat values (as it was supposed to be since 1.7.12). 8. Normalized all unit size detection functions to work correctly for high command HQs (XXXXX), "Corps" (XXX), "Fortified Region" (X), split "Corps" (X), "Group" (III), "Legion" (III), "Fortified Zone" (II), and "Detachment" (II) units.

Fabulous. Thanks to morvael for these fixes. Losing West Moscow during blizzard because of this bug was no fun. [&o]

Not really just meant I did not have to attack the flanks and force you to vacate it.

Thanks, Andrew... using new version now...

Appreciate getting an "official" source for the new execute file, easier to access & load up...

Sorry there were so many things to fix, though. Probably still not perfect. Oh, well...

3. Hopefully fixed important bug with Corps Artillery Regiments being recognized as Corps units (which resulted in wrong support unit assignment besides other undesired effects).

Is this Soviet Corps Artillery regiments? What is a Corps Unit in this context? Just curious what this means and what effects it will have.

Soviet Corps Artillery Regiment units were before this fix recognized as corps sized due to 'Corps' being part of the text string.

With the fix, there should not be any efforts by the AI to assign support units to them.

Also, corps sized units (still) have a more difficult INI roll, +1 do die size, while brigade and smaller have it easier, -1 to die size.

Example: leader INI rating 5 the roll was 5/11 and is now 5/9 for a CAR, -1 due to being a regiment.

Effect should be a somewhat increased firing frequency for CAR.

Worst problem was that the game assigned sapper regiments to those "corps", which effectively disappeared from the oob and so the ai hand to build more and more...

Morvael. Q

Are we still waiting upon the final fix for the German upgrade paths?

If yes, is there a game date (turn#) when the games should be suspended until the final fix?

And thanks for all your help in these last fixes.

On-going games will not benefit from the patch that much (in this department) so it's better not to pause them. As for the date of the so-called 1.08 patch I still don't have anything certain. It's mostly ready, but there is no time to finalize it (make sure everything works) and offer for internal testing. Actually, launching 1.07.15 is a setback for 1.08 as I have made conflicting changes (some things from 1.07.15 were already coded for 1.08 but in a different way), which will have to be merged before going forward. As of now I wait for a new portable 14" laptop to be available for purchase, which I will be able to use during commute to finish the patch (as I can't find enough time at home after work). Unfortunately, I don't want to buy any laptop, but one that will replace my old 17" and as such it has to fulfill all my needs, other than WitE and coding. And it happened that just last month Nvidia launched new generation of mobile graphic cards and it's better to wait for laptop with this new gfx chipset rather than buy something launched a year ago with technology that is two or three years old. And it means I am waiting for something like Gigabyte P34G v2 to be available in the EU, which didn't happen yet. Ordering from USA is too costly because of shipping fees and VAT to be paid.

I am curious as to which 14" laptop you are considering. I have an older 17" laptop that I'm going to have to replace sometime this year. I use 1900x1200 resolution with it. Laptops with that resolution are hard to find in the USA anymore.

Previously I also thought I need a 17" laptop to have a comfortable screen size to work with, but I have found out it's better to have a portable laptop for those moments you need to use it away from home, while connecting it to a 22"-24" monitor at home. That's the best of both worlds. There are a lot of light portable laptops out there, but I need one with a gaming-capable graphics card of the newest generation (currently GeForce GTX 850M and GTX 860M, higher numbered 8xx's are still using older generation chipsets) and the ability to hold an SSD + HDD. The price to pay for such a portable laptop is heat and noise when gaming (but I don't do that often), and lack of ODD (but I rarely use it, so an external one will be enough). There is precious little to select from:
- Razer Blade 2014 refresh (nice, but way over my budget),
- Clevo W230SS (ugly),
- MSI GE40 2OC 2014 refresh (it would be my favourite, but still no news about launch date), and
- Gigabyte P34G V2 (looks nice, but no official support in Poland and for now not available - even for preorder - in E.U. online stores and the cost of shipping and taxes when importing from the U.S. make it too costly; Gigabyte is also relatively "green" in laptop production, so it's hard to determine what's the quality of their product).

So now I'm waiting what will be first available in the E.U. for purchase - either MSI or the Gigabyte and that's what I'm buying.

Clevo W230SS may be ugly, but if it has the same fantastic IPS screen as my W230ST, you'll soon stop caring.

I would strongly advise ensuring that you get an IPS screen (or equivalent, as there is a veritable alphabet soup of display types, all of which are better than TN).

The screen quality is what makes one laptop more beautiful than another, IMHO. Unfortunately, the biggest issue with all Clevo's is their relatively poor battery life. Still, their cooling system is excellent, which is important since the last gen of MSI notebooks was plagued by throttling issues.

I am currently running a modded BIOS on my W230ST which vastly improved the battery life, but most people would not know how to do this, or care to do so if they did know.

Do people mostly use the beta patch for server games?
