Destroying an airbase

Post by VFA41_Lion »

Its come to my attention that I can't actually shut down an airbase' operations by blowing up its fuel tanks.

I'm preeeeetty sure destroying all the fuel storage facilities in an airbase should at the very least hamper that base's ability to launch aircraft. :<

That feature has not been implemented in command yet, the avgas facilities are currently just there for looks, they don't have any real use in game yet. In order to take out an airfield you need to either destroy the runways(s), runway access points, or bomb all the hangers. Taking out the munitions bunker(s) will work if unlimited munitions is disabled.

Hi Lion

We know. We have a couple of designs decisions to make on this. First how to not make fuel logistics a major headache to players. The second is theoretically fuel trucks could be at the base refueling aircraft the same business day. So we punted on that one for a bit to get some other items done.

That ok with you?

Well I originally thought the fuel tanks would only apply fuel to aircraft that had just landed. :<

Depending on the combatants and the time frame it would not be as simple as just hitting the fuel tanks.
For example in a WW3 NATO v PACT scenario the TTW (Transition To War) phase would see a lot of creative use of dispersal of things like munitions and fuel around a major airfield.
Lot of Civilian fuel bowsers out there [;)]
