RE: North Pacific actions 1st 24 Hours.
Mission objectives:
1. CTF 77.3 is ordered to sail north and prevent the Soviet surface forces from combining. A combined force would likely be too powerful for a single carrier group to overwhelm. Destroying the runways at Iturup is desired, however, this should only be attempted if Soviet surface forces have been destroyed.
This report is also contains some actions from the US Japanese air bases.
24- F-16's and 24- F-15's at Misawa were put on a BARCAP to the north and west areas. 24- F/A-18A's at Iwakuni were put on a westerly BARCAP. The early ATA battle was extreme, a large flight of bombers were heading towards Japan and looking to destroy something. Even though these bombers were flying over Japanese airspace the Japanese air force was non-committal. It soon became apparent that these bombers were going after Misawa's airbase. An order was given to launch all aircraft at Misawa, with AA loaded aircraft to help with CAP and the others to land at Yokota. The Soviet bombers were able to break through and take out the airbase at Misawa, in the process stranding 14- F-16C's and 2- F-15C's. After the Japanese finally got into the fracas the air battle over Japan started becoming manageable. A hearty accommodations should be given to the fearless Japanese aviator's, they gave no quarter and none was taken from them, a damned fine job!! As I write air superiority in this sector is achieved.
Early on it was decided to do a TLAM strike on the airbase at Iturup. CTF 77.3 launched its TLAM's and took out a few access points, the runway was burning but not out of business. Later in the day another TLAM strike was ordered. SSN Puffer, SSN New York City, and SSN Flasher launched a TOT strike at the Iturup runway and destroyed it.
Thanks to the excellent Intel. given by the Japanese MPA that spotted the TAKR Novorossiysk, and the Kalanin, the SR-71A(already on patrol) was tasked to keep an eye on her and 6- B-52G's (patrolling north) were tasked with taking out the capital ships. The B-52G's were able to sink the TAKR Novorossiysk, and a CG. Also thanks to Japanese Intel. a 4 ship enemy SAG was spotted in the East China Sea close to Japan. The other 6 B-52G's (patrolling south) was tasked with this nuisance and quickly sent all 4 ships to the bottom.
A Russian Intel. ship hanging too close to CTF 77.3 was sunk by a lone Warthog.
Tanker support from Yokota in the south and from Shemya to the north was used to extend the strike at the Kalanin SAG. Aircraft from CTF 77.3 and Adak have engaged this SAG with mixed success. After the first strike of these two forces and the B-52G's we now have 2 ships lightly damaged and the Kalanin moderately damaged, and 4 ships with no damage, but 4 ships have been sunk, the TAKR Novorossiysk being one of them. As I write a second wave from Adak is enroute and the CTF 77.3 striker's are 5 hours away from launching. In the next 24 hours I hope to see this enemy SAG at the bottom of the Pacific!!
2. CTF 77.4 is ordered to close on the Kamchatka peninsula and conduct precision strikes against military targets in the Petropavlovsk area. Primary targets are the runways at Yelizovo and Lenino. Secondary priority is the mining of the harbor entrance with CAPTOR mines. Other targets should be engaged at your discretion.
CTF 77.4 has been very disappointing. During the air superiority phase, mismanagement of AA assets was inexcusable. CTF 77.4's fighter wing was tasked early and often with the fighters at Shemya playing a minor role. It soon became apparent a few hours later that CTF 77.4 was going to need a 100% commitment of the USAF fighters. And commit they did. The CTF 77.4's BARCAP was halted due to rapidly depleting AA weapons. Weapons that were needed to arm the strike aircraft. The brave pilots of the USAF in Shemya were ordered to go "fangs out", not to return until down to guns, and in some cases they refused to go home after that. The air war was a bloodbath on both sides. Of the 24 F-16 Eagles, only 4 remain, CTF 77.4 is down to 2 F-14's with Phoenix load outs. The F/A-18C's, 10 of them are sitting in their hangers no longer able to load out with anything due to no more AIM-7M's available. The enemy fighters in this sector is now nonexisistant, but as I'm writing this a group of bombers are approaching the task force. The 4 Eagles and the 2 f-14's have shot their loads and are RTB. Hoping that CTF 77.4's Tico's can handle it, luckily the bombers are coming in spread out in groups of 1 to 2. Russian jamming has been very successful in confusing our fighters and AEW assets. Lost an EA-6B trying to counter jam enemy fighters. It flew in a little too close to the action.
Early in the battle the air base at Klyuchi was giving us worries. A TLAM strike was ordered and that airfield was neutralized.
CTF 77.4's attempt to strike the runways at Yelizovo and Lenino was an unmitigated disaster! 20- A-6E's (4- Walleyes, 12- GBU-10E, and 4- TALD load outs), 12 F/A-18A's with HARM's and CBU's, and 3- F-14B's with Phoenix's, plus an EA-6B took part. Also to help out the SSN Omaha and SSN Pogy were ordered to do a TLAM strike at the SA-5 regiment, effectiveness of this strike is unknown. Unfortunately the SSN Pogy was lost soon after it launched its TALM's. Its believed that an enemy MPA asset detected the launch of Pogy's TLAM'S and sunk her. The GBU loaded flights were tasked with the 2 runways at Yelizovo. The Walleyes were tasked with the lone runway at Lenino. SEAD provided by the HARM's and TALD's, with jamming support from the EA-6B. The F-14's were tasked with destroying the enemy jamming and AEW aircraft. The SEAD mission was going well, and my GBU laden Intruder's were in strike range when we came to the conclusion that the heavy cloud cover in the area was preventing the launch of the GBU,s. This was a major screw up!!! They were ordered RTB. The 4 walleye loaded aircraft were able to launch at their runway but only scored 2 hits. Damage to runway is unknown, BDA is ongoing as I type. The F-14's were able to take out an enemy AEW aircraft but the attempt to down the jammers was unsuccessful. The egress out of the area was nerve wracking but all aircraft got back, except the EA-6B was downed by a lone enemy fighter.
The commander of CTF 77.4 has been relieved of duty!!
If CTF 77.4 can survive, a second strike is planned with dumb bomb's and Walleye's. Mining the harbor could be a tough nut to crack, several enemy subs were seen in the harbor and SSN Omaha is tasked with patrolling the entrance to hopefully avoid any of those enemy assets from getting out. I'm down to very few if any load outs left for the CTF 77.4 aircraft due to having no more AIM Sparrows!
3. Use your submarines in the Sea of Japan to close off the La Perouse Strait. Your best opportunity to strike at the Baku group is when it attempts to pass through this chokepoint.
The SS 58 Blueback detected a large convoy of 10 enemy merchant ships and 15 MPK Poti & Grisha escorts heading towards the La Perouse Strait, She sunk several merchants and a few escorts before being lost, presumably by a Russian MPA asset. A few Japanese subs also got in on the destruction (once they declared war on Russia) and sank a few ships also before getting lost.
A flight of 8 PC-3 Orions with Harpoons at Yokota were tasked with striking this convoy and successfully destroyed several more merchants and escorts. While on the way this group detected an SAG heading towards the La Perouse Strait. Japanese MPA's (Damn these guys deserve a medal!) identified this group as the TAKR Baku and 4 other ships! Later a second strike from the Orion's at Yokota was ordered on the convoy, and they took out even more merchants and escorts. As of this writing there are 2 merchants on fire and 2 merchants undamaged. SSN New York City is racing to finish them off.
A few hours after the Baku SAG was identified, the aircraft from Iwakuni were ready. With tanker support from Yokota, 12 A-6E's (4- AGM-78D's, 4- Walleye's, and 4- Harpoons) with jamming support from an EA-6B launched and headed towards the Baku SAG. With the TASM's (and then closing with Harpoon's) on the SSN Puffer helping out, the strike was a complete success!! The Baku was sunk along with 2 other ships, and two ships burning and limping. Just before I went to write this report the SSN Puffer torpedoed one of the burning ships and was headed for the other to send it to its fate!
4. Protect the convoy headed to Japan to the best of your ability.
Convoy destroyed! A bomber raid on this convoy was detected early and no AA assets were available. The escorts were on there own and did not survive. A Foxtrot and an Akula sub were also in on the destruction, but a Perry destroyer was able to sink the Foxtrot. Later a Japanese MPA sunk the Akula. That same MPA was able to detect and classify a Russian SAG consisting of a TAKR Novorossiysk, and the Kalanin. The convoy carried vital parts for our aircraft in Japan. The back-up supply flight from Travis AFB made it to Japan without incident.
5. Protect the Cobra Dane radar on Shemya to the best of your ability.
Radars still operational! No attacks have happened.

Damn Yokes! You said if I had a month! I'm a month into it and have only finished the first 24 hours. Been giving it 2-3 hours a day when possible. I know its a good scenario when I go to bed thinking about my next strike!
I enjoy the large ones, and the fact that its an old cold war one is a +++
You cant micromanage these large ones. I let the AI handle the AAW and I micromanaged the strikes and tanker support.
Very good job. BTW I haven't tried your updated one with more aircraft and staggered times.
Comments to Dev's
Partial load outs of aircraft should be available. Find it hard to believe I cant reload with just sidewinders when I've got a crap load of bombers headed my way.
A range ring on the map showing flight endurance range based on current load out and speed/altitude would be a lot of help.
This large scenario crashed a lot when things got heavy, build 507 helped quite a bit, but I still get freezes but not near as bad. Its a random thing, so I haven't sent a save or anything.
Weather that changes, or moving weather systems would also be nice.
At times I had up to 4 tanker support missions going. All went pretty good but I found the occasional aircraft heading to the wrong tanker patrol. Being able to assign planes to a specific tanker patrol (treated as a second airbase???) would very helpful.
This was my first AAR. Will update again when I get through with this. . .in another month perhaps.
