Unit withdrawals.

Piercing Fortress Europa is a new game from veteran game designer Frank Hunter, which covers the campaigns of the Western Allies from July, 1943 through the end of April, 1945 in Sicily and Italy. Each area has its own map and time scale to best represent the campaigns for Sicily and Italy and the player is offered complete freedom, limited only by a historical order of battle and logistics model, to plan his operations and explore all of the many “what ifs” that the Italian theater has to offer.

Unit withdrawals.

Post by stormbringer3 »

I've looked in the manual but I haven't been able to find this. What happens if a unit scheduled for withdrawal is already eliminated?
Thanks for any info.

Nothing, there is no selection of a replacement unit.

Thanks for the reply. I must admit that the answer suprised me. I will change how I've been playing those units. I was pulling them out of the line before they were destroyed thinking that there would be some kind of penalty. Now I feel that you should use them until elimination to cost the enemy as much as possible. You are going to lose them anyway. Perhaps there should be some kind of penalty if they are destroyed?
Thanks again.

I have yet to try playing as the axis, hur wouldn't keeping weak units alive be useful to maximize your ability to slow the advance of the allies?

I didn't want players holding back units for VP reasons. For example, units are easy to rebuild because even when a division is "destroyed", that's really only its combat strength. Most of the division is still there. Which is why a destroyed division only takes about a week to get rebuilt if replacements are available.

So, if you have a division that's about to be withdrawn, by all means use it, the commanders at the time would have.
