Think... small?

Post by Irinami »

Some people tell you, "Think BIG."

I tried that. I thought big for a while. My girlfriend got lonely and I got tired of spending 2-3 hours on one turn. Granted, commanding about 4 companies was fun, but... too much.

So I decided to think small. Ever played Munda? (Look at my .sig if you haven't.) I'm thinking like, that small. One Company small. The Long WWII campaign doesn't make battles well for that size, unfortunately.

I'd like to go through all the maps and scenarios in the base install and find out how big they are... but after the 15th one that gets old fast. So what I'm asking is:

"Can (and will ;)) anyone recommend maps and/or Scenarios (and/or especially Campaigns!) that are small enough for a Company-sized unit (no larger than Co(+) size)?"

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Irinami.

We, at The Arsenal, are developing since some times the concept of MINICAMPAIGNS.
They have normally a very short time frame (covering few days of battle), a small (if any) core force and limited total amount of units, and few battles to be fought (3-5).
So far, there are two available:

1) “An hospital on the front line” by me, covering part of the defensive battles fought by Germans in January 1943 south of Leningrad;

2) “Slaughter at Cheneux” by our team leader Bryan “Marauder Mel” Melvin, depicting some of the fightings of US 30th Div. and 82nd AB Division against Kampfgruppe Peiper during battle of the Bulge. This one has a system to play it from both sides.

You can find them by following the link in my signature, then choose “spotlight” section and scroll down.

I think these two could fit your liking; more to follow!!

Oh, BTW, if you play them, pls give us your feedback...

Irinami - Try this URL: http://redleg.homestead.com/
- Redleg'swebsite. Look into the monthly "Dirty Dozen": you will find gobs of small unit action scenarios, some of them as short as five or six turns and all of them well designed as well as fun to play.

Highly recommended.

Utah to the rhine is about 1200-1400 i think. ALthough its supposed to be about the 70th tank regiment/battalion. Im sure you can just buy a company (well a small one, seeing as i think a company is about 1400-2000).
OFFICIAL: Stop! Stop, will you?! Stop that! Stop it! Now, look! No one
is to stone anyone until I blow this whistle! Do you understand?! Even,
and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do say 'Jehovah'.

Have done U2R straight thru three times. Nine airborne squads, some Shermans and mortars, start from there. Can provide all the Core, Support and Aux figures from 7.1 playthrough.

There are some battles where the player doesn't need support weapons, others where they had better be available.

I wouldn't go any way other than the airborne, they are my guys.
