Question about the physical copy DW:U

Distant Worlds is a vast, pausable real-time, 4X space strategy game which models a "living galaxy" with incredible options for replayability and customizability. Experience the full depth and detail of large turn-based strategy games, but with the simplicity and ease of real-time, and on the scale of a massively-multiplayer online game. Now greatly enhanced with the new Universe release, which includes all four previous releases as well as the new Universe expansion!

Question about the physical copy DW:U

Post by Osito »

I'm a little embarrased about asking this question, as I feel sure the information is available somewhere, and I missed it, but if I buy the physical copy of DW:U do I also get a digital download from Matrix (rather than through Steam). I'd imagine it's a yes, but would appreciate confirmation from someone who knows.

Thanks,

Osito

Ha, yes! I was wondering this also. I'm buying the physical copy but figured that the reason we was given a steam key was so we could go ahead and download it from there while we wait for our box copy. I was like "ugh... steam.."

Hello, brand new here, just learned about this game via Steam. I tried finding release information on this and I am very confused. Questions...

Where and when can I pre-order/get the discounted physical copy?
Does the physical copy come with a download? If so, from Matrix or from Steam?

It releases tomorrow and I've had no luck finding any sort of pre-order option anywhere. [&:]

The pre-order for Steam didn't work out (Steam issue), so everyone gets it May 23 EST.

Yes, the physical copy has the download as well but physical is from the Matrix site only :

Hi Darkbridger,

There's no pre-order (we were planning on one, but Steam did not set it up in time).

However, there is an at-release discount of $10 off the normal price, which will last for a week or two after release (starting tomorrow).

If you have any previous Distant Worlds releases, you will be able to get upgrade discount coupons here at our site as well. Instructions for all this will be posted tomorrow along with the release.

If this is your first Distant Worlds release, you can purchase the physical copy here at the $10 release discount, then register your serial key to also get a Steam key. The physical copy will give you a boxed copy with a full color printed manual and an immediate download from our store as well as the option to get a Steam key to also add Distant Worlds: Universe to your Steam Library.

Regards,

Will the Steam key option be available to get here at Matrix after the Steam release? Because I'm not seeing it quite yet. Thanks.

Couple questions about the physical copy...I've gotten all my other Distant Worlds content registered and therefor have the $40 discount shown when I check out. I'm still not seeing the extra $10 release discount...does that not apply to the physical copies? And does one still get a steam key even with the physical? Sorry for the silly questions, and thanks in advance for any help!

The discounted release price is $49.99 Download / $64.99 Physical. So with the $40 discount, you should have a physical price of $24.99 at release. The prices will rise after the release discount period to $59.99 Download / $74.99 Physical.

Hi Erik.

Two questions:

1. How do I calculate the tax? So I can work out how much it will be on top for the physical?

2. The physical copy is listed as 'Boxed Edition', does it come with a color printed manual?

All I can find on support is:
When buying a boxed PC game it will come in one of three editions, these editions are shown below:

- Digital Express Edition: This edition comes with a full color printed box, full color printed DVD (with your order number and serial number printed on it) and a PDF E-Book indexed manual.

- Standard Edition: This edition comes with a full color printed box, full color printed DVD (with your order number and serial number printed on it), a Printed grayscale manual and a PDF E-Book indexed manual.

- Collector's Edition: This edition comes with a full color printed box, full color printed DVD (with your order number and serial number printed on it), a Printed full color manual and a PDF E-Book indexed manual.

The game edition will be displayed on the product page.

Hi Darkspire,

Any location-specific tax and shipping charges will be shown on the checkout page _before_ you complete the purchase. So feel free to proceed that far to see how things add up before making your decision. VAT is generally not charged on boxed versions when we ship outside the US, as it's up to customs to apply it as far as I understand.

The boxed edition for Distant Worlds: Universe is a Collector's Edition which does include a full color printed manual.

Regards,

- Erik

Just ordered mine! Whoohoo! [:D]

I just realized that the last time I held a purchased game in my actual hands... it was Civ III - now THAT'S going back a bit!

This is cool! I'm now expecting mail - not just bills! [8D]

(Off to do the Steam thing...)

Hello,

the boxed version would cost me 20.02€ with the discounts.

For any item which value is below 22€, you dont have to pay taxes according to online customs office information in germany.

However this only applies if the final invoice price says 20.02€.

So the question is, what is listed on the invoice as final price, the 20.02€ (as it should be) or something else (eg without taking the discount coupon into account)?
